Hi Everyone.
Continuing with #threetunetuesday posts.

"What Is a Reference Track?
A reference track is any finished track from another artist that you can use as a model for the desired sound of your own music.

When you use a reference, the goal is to compare your track with the other artist’s track to come up with ideas for the arrangement, production, mix, or overall vibe."

It is like an unwritten rule, but having multitude of reference tracks is a must for any music production studio, regardless of genre or style or size.

Whether they serve as guidance or inspiration.

I will dedicate a few Tuesdays to share with you some of the music that I use often as a reference or that simply represent examples of music productions of the highest order (in my opinion of course).
Considering that so much of music from the 60s till 90s has also been remastered or even remixed, choices for today's contemporary productions are literally limitless.

So, let's begin.

The Beatles - Now and Then
Produced by Paul McCartney and Giles Martin

Song that John Lennon recorded on cassette as demo in 1970s, then was worked by the rest of the band in the 1990s for the Anthology project, but was left unfinished until 2023 when they were able to isolate original John Lennon vocals from the original cassette using AI.
It became an instant classic and it is a true masterpiece.
If they could do this, and have such an end result, it is clear the sky is the limit for music production.

Tears for Fears - Astronaut
Produced by Charlton Pettus and Tears for Fears

This is track from the latest Tears for Fears album Songs for a Nervous Planet.
Soothing sublime sound. Perfect combination of older and new approaches to music.
Stunning performance and production.

Michael Jackson - Billy Jean
Produced by Quincy Jones

The legendary Michael Jackson album Thriller produced by the late Quincy Jones is simply a must have in everyone's collection.
This is how it is done. :)

I hope you enjoyed reading and listening. Best Regards!
