My Sewing Corner

in #sewing2 months ago

Dear Reader,
Welcome to my sewing corner!

This is my corner of our family living room. We are four adults living in a small house, so have had to be clever with our storage. What we have found here, as we have in every part of the house - it's not how much you have, it's how cleverly you store it that matters!
The ubiquitous Ikea Kallax units and boxes are full of yarn and scrap fabric, or cabbage if you will.

Let's take a closer look

We will start with the gorgeous 1950's larder unit that my husband bought me last year for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we spent months painstakingly restoring it to its former glory.

My sewing machines are easy to pull forward and use right here and Stuart ran a cable through and installed a multi plug extension inside so they are neatly plugged in

The long cupboard has this pull out ironing board in the front section but still has a cupboard behind where I store things like my knitting machine, roll of pattern paper, sleeve board, etc.

In the cupboards above and below the sewing machines we have fabric

The drawers have sewing machine accessories, cables, notepad, wrist splints etc

That covers that unit, let's move on to the next part of the corner

On the top here I have my two sewing boxes, one inherited from each grandmother
Firstly we have the box that came from my maternal grandmother, or Nanny as we called her

This is where I keep the things I will need while I'm sewing at my machine, like pins, tailors chalk, scissors etc

The box that I inherited from my paternal grandmother, or Granny, is used for all my hand sewing and mending equipment

I love the fact that because I inherited much of my sewing equipment from my grandmothers I often come across things with their handwriting on them, which is lovely as they have both been gone for over a decade.

Also in this corner I have the things I need for pattern drafting and of course my laptop for doing things like this!
If we lift up the curtain we find a little scruffy hidden gem

We found this on Facebook marketplace for next to nothing, it has come from a primary school and is absolutely wonderful for all the things like lining fabric, interfacing, zips, thread - basically it's a haberdashery!

So there we go! That's my sewing corner, I hope you like it!
