Winter— What Else Could It Be? [shorts]

in #shorts2 years ago

It’s mid-day, but the sun yawns and is too shy to smile upon the creature below. A cold, harsh wind is blasting outside, forcing nature to sleep longer than usual, trees standing tall with their deserted leaves fallen below, birds barely chirp lest the frost-bitten weather strangles their voice, seizing the melodic tune for months, a cold blanket of somber snow welcomes everything in its frozen arms.

It lures me in the land of dejection where the heart yearns for a saturated sun, craves its warmth with a brute force to reckon with— but tunes out as pitching in seems so ambitious and eventually, retreats to the cave hidden under a thick layer of warm clothes.

As the pale sun peeks from the mist-stuffed untethered sky, I am baptised again— my stiffed limbs find the strength to move, although, a silent blow penetrates the nostrils, making it runny, and my head buzzing with the screeching wind finds comfort under the protection of black hat.

Hark— the army of dark clouds is marching towards the whining sun, gasping for air devoid of the lustfulness of the dominant gust. Lost in the argument to stay awake, soon it is forced to hide as the saturated clouds burst into tears, soaking the ground with its icy-cold aqua, dampening the soil even further.

Day passes by; with gleaming light of hopefulness, night falls. I look above to count juicy stars but see nothing but the withered sky, wrapped in impenetrable mist; a pearly moon jumps from one cloud to another— a cry for emancipation unheard by the queen of snow. The morning star loses its charm; separated by the cruel mist, it fails to guide the sailors, and they wander aimlessly in the tranquil sea.

O’ winter— how could I possibly proclaim my unending love for you!

How do I express my dearest affection for the melancholy you embody? Come, take me with you— let me love you until the sun shines and burns the seedlings we give birth to together— come, let me bathe in the tenderness of your snowy lips before the blazing sun sucks it dry!

Hello @r-nyn

This was beautifully written and quite moving. I could feel the icy cold and that need to feel warmth both physically and emotionally. Very nicely done.

Yes, winter has a melancholic imagery only celebrated by a few privileged soul. Although most people rant about the misery it brings to a specific group of people, i.e. homeless, the season itself brings the bounty of resources to the world, or say, to the tropical area.

The mist, dew soaked grass tops, especially few mosquitoes to deal with; winter has so many benefits to leverage 😀

Thank you stopping by, you opinion means a lot ❤️

I absolutely agree with you, it is a beautiful season. I tend to feel the cold a lot so that part of it I don't like too much but it's necessary and the rain is needed so I'm always grateful for it.

You write so well.
