Not Much....But Bought With Ancient Crypto!

image.png

Several days ago in the Mancave/Bro Discord several members were discussing precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum and someone posted a link where you could purchase such treasures with various cryptos. This spurred a long buried memory of me doing something similar years ago and I went digging for my safe key to see what I could find!

One of my very first introduction to crypto was Devcoin that I earned through the Devtome project. As an amateur writer I was completely blown away at the prospect of earning this mystery money through writing about WHATEVER I wanted to.....it was magic to me! lololol

It wasn't long before many of the members began working on creating ways to spend the DVC we were earning and I remember everything from auctions for tech to giftcards for DVC popping up by various people. I then stumbled upon a place selling metals for Devcoin, and although I have never been much of a stacker since someone stole a dozen silver dollars out of storage that my grandfather left me, I was extremely intrigued. However, I didn't have much DVC accumulated to buy any of the more common metals such as silver or gold, BUT I was able to score these two gems! I zombie-themed copper coin and a titanium bar. JACKPOT!!! I also vaguely remember purchasing two small, small, small pieces of silver, but I believe I gave one to my wife and one to my daughter.

I know they are not worth much at all but, at the time, being able to buy something real....tangible.....solid with crypto that I had earned from my creativity made me feel so immensely accomplished and blessed...lolololol Those early experiences with Devcoin and Devtome set the stage for me to eventually land on our predecessor and then finally here at Hive.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I sincerely hope you enjoyed this little trip down my personal crypto memory lane. Remember that I love you all and each of you deserve to buy treasure with the power of your creativity!

Love that zombie coin! I would be as excited as you to get something like that.

I know exactly how you feel. When I was blogging before taking a break, the one thing that I purchased myself was a solar panel and kit. I was very proud of myself for that. Even though it was earned through writing with our hearts desires, we were still putting in the work to get it done, make the post look nice and interact with other people. It's good work and it does pay off. It's great!

It is excellent work and seems more "pure" to me if that makes sense. So glad to see you back active here!

Totally makes sense

This is good. This might not look tangible as enough as you expected but trust me it is something huge

thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply to my post. I'm very proud of my little gems...lololol

If you still love @Devcoin then I'm sure you'll be happy to hear we're just a front end open source 3D UI away from an entire Devcoin and other ancient coins treasuries based metaverse the foudner markm has been creating since the BBS days as a MMORPG and recently sold the first NFT on the front-end he chose (Polygon Network) as an ERC-1155 from the game itself -- Galactic Milieu. Read he endgame and some info he never shared publicly about this all on his makemoney.knotwork.com site -- he created the Devcoin genesis block and first codebase also added DVC, and other ancient merge mined coins, scifi coins, the first two scrypt coins and more all which back DVC and in turn DVC helped back all others in the treasure. It's going to be a 3D UI immersive metaverse game and social platform very soon -- he likes OpemSimulator for that - which is the open source front for playing Second Life :) - Also I wasn't around in the @devtome days but there's a lot of info markm (@knotwork) put there to make the "docs' for his metaverse game - it's like Sandbox but better. Sandbox began as a mobile game only in 2012, rebranded in 2016, then was bought and crypto became part of it later on by 2019... Same sorta deal. MarkM aka @knotwork added crypto to a game he's been developing into a metaverse after he already had in-game items of value and tiles. He even owns GB of OpenSim archive files (.tgz compressed ones that run without unzipping to .tar .oar files now!). We're 5G and a UI away from shocking the universe. Layer 1 is merge mined robust secure and we even have Polygon now :) - and if u wanna transact instantly we'll we've had all our treasuries tokens listed on HORIZON (the NXT clone markm and I run on a Java applet NRS with the same nodes you use the Crossfire client of choice (mines JavaX) to login and play galactic milieu at the new server1.knotwork.net (also a HORIZON node where u can easily integrate our decentralized assets into the actual metaverse game since it runs on the same server). Read this first! makemoney.knotwork.com -- then come back! We have plenty of DVC in fact I shared your article on twitter and as an A-Team member trying his best to fill in for the legends that are doing work over here (@novacadian is an OG legend in Devcoin) I will get you to our purse holder of Devcoin Foundation rewards for contributors like you that share Devcoin stories on other platforms! You deserve a stake in our far reaching universe. The DVC will rise! And so will some 42 treasury coins markm and I rescued and run nodes for with it haha.

Find out telegram t.me/devcoins and we will get you back in the mix. You belong on our team!

You to @novacadian come back even just to chat - we're mainly on telegram and @develcuy has been doing some great modernized code updates for us. Devcoin 22.x came out this year! The first Devcoin Core ever - QT works for Linux, and I have the alpha private release for Windows 11 and I can tell you this... The Windows version is also flawless! He's already got Devcoin v23 in mind and while no old chain split will hurt anyone's holdings he's giving a client a chance for people to GPU mine with because of Selfish ASIC mining holding our true progress back. 11-11.5 years of bootstrapping off Bitcoin L1 with merge mining (that began at pool.devcoin.org btw on Jan 1, 2012 with just use BTC and NMC!) is enough to harden us up. Also the "old" chain will still work - MarkM uses it work his metaverse, I use it all the time and want to build counterparty over it since we have 2x the OP_RETURN output max bytes (80 not 40 like the 0.9.x Core devs had slashed to kill off Counterparty) ;)....
that picture is for you @papacrusher - the DVC economy will return. But perhaps on @Syscoin NEVM as a DAO!

Nice story, @papacrusher.

Crazy how we forget about these things, lol

Nice coins!

So far I've only ever bought one tangible thing with crypto. In 2016 I bought 0.1 BTC for £50 and then bought a coffee with some of it.

Here's the transaction actually - still in my wallet... That £2.67 was 0.00535 BTC at the time - which is about 122 USD today. I imagine there are many with even earlier transactions that are even more ridiculous.

Nice! Boy oh boy do I have a personal BTC story for you next time we have a meeting! lololol

Haha can't wait!
