My Conversation with a Spiritual Guru

in #spirituality15 hours ago

I like to have conversations with spiritual gurus whenever I get an opportunity because whenever I have a conversation with them there is something that tickles me from within and makes me think about the way I live my life. Having conversations with them is about learning something which is valuable for life. But not all Gurus are same and not every Guru practice what they preach. A Guru is a person who teaches spiritual and religious knowledge.

My last conversation was with a Guru was on the topic of detachment of material things and with people in life. It was at one of a very renowned temple in India. To be honest, I was not very impressed with him. The reason was while we were exchanging our thoughts on this topic, he kept showing me some of his expensive gifts that he had received from some of his followers. One e.g. was, he was gifted a Mont Blanc pen from one of his followers and I observed how he kept flaunting it. Then he was wearing some expensive watch which again was a gift to him from a follower.

This was not a sign of someone who is not attached to material things of life. So while he had some good things to share, I was not very impressed by him. I also felt that by showing off his things he was setting some expectation from us to gift him something. Because that's what the energy I felt coming from him. He kept bragging about his lectures and followers. He was actually a top professional guy who had later on in his life turned to become a spiritual guru. More then a spiritual guru talk I felt like I was listening to a marketing person who was trying to sell me something.

It was a little uncomfortable for me after a point because then he also started giving me and my hubby some of the religious things which we actually did not want. We did not want to disrespect so we took it, but then now my dilemma is how to discard it, because it is lying in the corner of my cupboard and I am never going to use it, and I do not understand how to dispose it also. Hubby was anyways annoyed with me that day, because he was not interested in sitting for the talk and I had forced him.

I do not expect a spiritual guru to quit on all worldly things and at the same time I do not expect a guru to be so attached to materialism. With him I felt like he was a full branded person with expensive things on him, which he was actually enjoying it.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

As he is attached to material things, how does he want people to believe the things he says, in every practice, they must be a good example, i understand the disappointment he might have caused, as he was in the likes of showing expensive things. Regard.

Very interesting article. Good afternoon for today and good luck to all of us.

I understand how you feel, it's always disappointing when someone you assume would not do something, do them and more.

The spiritual guru is supposed to advise people to stay away from material things not the other way round

There's a certain satisfaction material things bring but , getting a certain form of attachment doesn't sit well.

If we meet even one true spiritual Guru during our lifetime, I believe that we will get answers to all the questions of life. It is like a boat wandering in the sea finding a shore.

I have met many spiritual sages and mahatmas while roaming in the Indian Himalayas. I remember once a Guru made me aware of the taste of food, after which food does not attract me so much till date.

In Banaras I met a Guru who said that if I don't do this, people will not leave me alone. That Guru used to abuse the greedy people who came to him so that people would consider him greedy and would not come to him again.

Walk with awareness because it is not necessary that a Guru will be wearing a robe, who knows someone may come in pants and shirt and open all the closed doors of life and go away. I am remembering the words of Gautam Buddha "अप्प दीपो भव:"

This is quite puzzling lol. I think sometimes, past experiences that people have can keep them from fully ascending into transcendental levels where materials things are seen for just what they are. Old habits die hard, they say. Maybe the guru is still caught in that level of thinking.

Spiritual Guru sounds great...
But who is it? Just a person who has studied spiritual practices or what?
here in my place there are SO many people who try to teach anyone, who wants to show they are super spiritual and wise, they are enlightened in all senses... It is calles "coaching" here. Should I say thay wanna get rather big money for their life teaching?:)
in fact, they are not enligntened at all, but they are rich because many people go to them and believe they are special and they can change their life.

I amn't impressed with this guru you've visited as well dear...
And I understand Viraf;)
