For this weeks contest I decided to do something entirely different from my usual 3D renders. This time I went for a more artsy kind of look. I am also doing a character that I have never attempted before. The Captain's Ghost.
I used this image for a reference, and as usual I used poser13 to make this piece.
The first thing I did was to make a 3D scan of the original Splinterlands artwork. But as you can see the scan didn't look to good.
So I decided to remove all of the textures and start from scratch.
I tried a few different textures, but I wanted a texture that you could see through, so that he would look more like a ghost. I settled on this glass like texture, but you can't really see how it looks because the scene isn't fully rendered.
It didn't show up that well, so I removed the background and made it black. That made the glass effect look nice, plus it added a spooky kind of feel to the piece.
Then I added some fog to the scene to top it all off.
After that it was just the question of how many frames to make the animation. I was going to make it longer and add more effects, but if I wanted to make it in time for the contest, I knew I didn't stand a ghost of a chance lol.
