Hello once again, Splinterfam and fellow Hivers roaming our Hive Sphere
I’m here again taking on the next battlemage challenge and I’m hoping that you may once again give a bit of time reading this entry.
My thanks in advance

The featured ruleset of the week is Briar Patch
The road to winning this time is full of thorns. Let’s see how are we going to deal it this time and see if we can grab a victory against the thorny path

All units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back.
Damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.
Melee attack units with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from thorns.
The Amplify ability increases damage.

Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities
A good tank and a balanced line up of Magic and Ranged monsters is the trick to win in this ruleset. Keep your monsters in an ascending order of their HP.

IMMORTALIS.png
I opted to use this summoner in consideration of the implemented ruleset. I thought the opponent battlemage may select a summoner which can grant his monsters Void Armor ability wherein magic attacks will hit the armor before the monster’s health. In this case, the Shatter ability granted by my summoner will instantly remove those pesky shields in one attack and then directly hit his monster’s hp in the next chance that opponent is hit. I also considered the opponent to use magic attacking type monsters, hence the usage of the summoner that grants Void to my monsters is also taken into consideration.

While this monster will also suffer a certain amount of damage every time it attacks the enemy’s Tank, I still decided to use this as my Tanksince I will have in my line-up a Healer which can somehow negate those damages received. It will attack twice, dealing devastating blows, every time its turn turns up and that is a significant factor in considering which monster I’m going to use in my 1st slot.

I placed this one in the 2nd slot because I intended this monster to be the next one to receive all the blows of the opponent’s attack when my main Tank left the battlefield when it is killed. It has low magic power but the amount of hp it has is enough to at least long enough for my more powerful monsters in the back to kill some of the opponents.

MAGIOF CHAOS.png
The same hp as Regal Peryton but is more powerful than it. Placed in the middle to avoid being in the frontline to soon. It will allow me to make full use of its magic attacks if it can stay in the game for as long as possible.

The main Healer of my line-up. Its got lower hp compared to the monster before it but has the same magic power. With this being in the middle of the line, it can continuously heal all the monsters that will be in the Tank position all the while targeting the opponents during its turn to attack.

͓̽S͓͓̽̽P͓͓̽̽I͓͓̽̽R͓͓̽̽I͓͓̽̽T͓̽ ͓̽H͓͓̽̽O͓͓̽̽A͓͓̽̽R͓͓̽̽D͓͓̽̽E͓͓̽̽R͓̽

SPIRIT.png
The back-up Healer of my team. This healer will be focusing its ability to healing the most damaged monster from the backline which will be the Mycelic Slipspawn.

I placed this monster in the last slot in order to divert the attacks of the opponents to it. Its Taunt ability will make it the target of all monster in the opposing side aside from the enemy Tank. It is expected that this monster will be the ones to leave the battlefield in the earliest time but the presence of Spirit Hoarder will somehow make it stay a little longer.

We ended up choosing the same Earth Splinter but differed in the chosen summoner in that I opted to bolster my defense against magic attacks by using summoner that granted my monster Void ability while the opponent used a summoner where it granted his monsters an additional magic attack power by one unit.
Since in general my monsters has more speed, it is my monsters that initiated the attack first. My fastest monster Regal Peryton immediately cast its spell towards the opponent with Taunt ability which is Mycelic Slipspawn. That attack was immediately followed with barrage of attacks against one another’s Mycelic Slipspawn aside from both Tanks minding their own business. My Tank missed due to the opponent having the Flying ability which allowed it to dodge attacks aimed at it despite them having the same speed.

As expected the ones to suffer the most during these harsh exchanges of attacks and spells are the Mycelis Slipspawn of each side but mine has greater health since it was healed by my Spirit Hoarder.
round1 end.png

The round 2 commenced and its at this round that my Tank’s perseverance to hit the enemy bore fruits. It finally landed an attack after several tries. But due to the effecting ruleset, it also suffered some damages from the thorns.

It’s also during this round, both sides suffered their first loss… with the opponent experiencing it during the early phase of the current round. The opponent has a monster with the Resurrect ability so it brought back their Mycelic Slipspawn but was killed again during the middle phase of the round.
My Mycelic Slipspawn that dealt the last blow to its counterpart that effectively resulted in it to leave the battlefield for good.

It was during the late phase of the round that I suffered my first monster loss.
The round soon ended with both the Taunt ability monsters gone. This means that both the Tanks from each side will be the main target of attacks.

round end.png

The 3rd round followed after and it’s the opponent’s Tank that was the first to leave the field.
20240128_060541.gif
My Grund followed soon. The monsters in line both step up and became the next Tanks and were subjected to furies of attacks from each side.
With attacks focused on the monsters in the 1st slot, the round progressed fast and steadily. The opponent’s current Tank is barely holding on with 1hp remaining while mine is in full health and in perfect condition. All monsters in the field purely comprises of magic attack monsters now. With the opponent being more powerful while mine looked underpowered. In addition to that, the opponent’s Healer has Affliction ability wherein its target loses the ability to be healed.
round 3 end.png
The only saving grace and the way I’m seeing that the tide will turn is because the opponent monsters has lower hp in them and my monsters can effectively kill them in a few shots.
While its true that my loses that my Healer loses the chance to heal my Tanks, the opponents monster in the 1st slot can’t last long due to their low hp and they were soon killed during the 4th round.
The round ended with only the Healer in the opponent’s team remained while I still have 4 from my line-up.
round4 end.png

The 5th and last round didn’t even last a few seconds. It only took two shots and the remaining enemy was killed.

My team gained victory this time around. The proper selection of the summoner in combination of two healers for the front and backline worked well in my favor.

That is all for this week’s challenge folks.
Hope to see you again next time.
