With its ability to prevent healing, a battle with Affliction in action is usually short lived. Some abilities are born stronger than others and Affliction has the ability to turn a battle on its head. While it only has a 50% chance of impact, this is enough to make the wait an anxious one at times.

I really enjoy using Martyr cards to good effect. Especially during a battle that has Reborn rulesets as we get to trigger them twice. What makes this even more awesome is the cost... free. So normally when I review a card at level 9, I start to get concerned about cost and who will buy it as it can only be used at the top tier. But when Soulbound Reward cards come up, that is when I see a card I can achieve. Okay, I need another 270 BCX until I get to Affliction but for 3 mana and Blind as well, that is a great card. Well worth owning!

I am personally just a few BCX short of level 4 with my own copy. So far though, I have used this card a few times and it has been okay. The 2 damage is great and so is the 5 health and of course Blast makes it awesome too. Adding in Affliction is a great benefit to the card and honestly it makes it a much more viable card in my opinion as 6 mana especially in the Water deck is where you can start to really shape your line up. Overall though, with zero investment cost this is a great card to call upon should you need it.

This is a particularly effective card in the Equaliser or Fog of War rulesets as the greatest weakness of the Madcap Magus is its lack of health and speed. But for sixth level you gain a decently powerful card, capable of doing two damage and Affliction will prevent that opposing tank from healing. Overall a good enough card for the Sould Bound rewards.

For sixth level at under $3.00 for a Gold Foil, I'd almost always recommend a card. 4 mana, 3 speed and 6 health this makes for a better cost ratio for this card than the Magma Troll which we will see later on this list. The Reach ability is excellent and for the price it is hard to complain! Highly recommend.

A really solid card with Cripple, Sneak and Double Strike. This is a particularly effective combination and Affliction is a lovely cherry to add on top. It is likely you will already have a bunch of these so the cost may reduce a bit for you. For a max copy in Regular Foil, I'd recommend everyone playing at that level to take one of these. The Gold Foil on the other hand may not be so worth it due to the large price difference.

As the first card I levelled to 4th level, I am fond of this card. It's talent for Tank Heal is well known and its annoying habit of casting Affliction my lineup is rather frustrating. I linked a battle in the introduction of the blog if you haven't seen it already: during which the Goblin Psychic turns the battle upside down with Affliction. Expensive at 6 mana but you do get a strong healer with good magic damage and Affliction to annoy me with on the battlefield - what is not to love? Highly recommended!

I've grown to like this card as it has some really solid stats. Sure, 9 mana is expensive but the armour combined with the 7 health make a good card here. Adding Affliction just ensures that the victory comes that little bit sooner and at sixth level, who doesn't like 4 damage. For the price: worth it! The Gold Foil is only marginally more expensive too.

This is a good cheap alternative to Fineas Rage for the Fire Deck but the addition of Affliction here sets this card apart. 4 mana, speed and health is great and the 2 melee attack striking from Range make this an interesting proposition. The cost for Gold Foil is not too high but I am not sure I'd use this card over others in the list to justify the price. Overall, if you play Commons at sixth level, the Regular Foil might be worth it.

A solid price and for 3 ranged damage it is a very godo 6 mana card. The 3 health is on the low side so you will need to take care of this card but a Fog of War ruleset could work very well in your favour here. With only 1 BCX required it is a cheap enough card to get to Affliction and worth it so it very much may be worth taking to 3rd level to receive the next point for the damage stat. Worth it: YES!

Available in either Beta or Promo editions, this card offers Affliction at 4th level and the option of an alternative facecard design - although I cannot seem to find out more information regarding this - definitely conflicting information in my research. For 3 mana it is a decent offering with 1 attack, 2 speed and, 4 health (which is actually good) but as a player of mostly Modern, I cannot say I remember playing against it in brawls. It is not the cheapest card in the set but does represent that next layer of cards at around the $0.28 range.

Stun is a great ability but on it's own may not be enough to justify 5 mana. But at fourth level the addition of Affliction takes this card to the next level. 4 speed and 6 health are highlights and while 2 damage is not amazing it is the combination here that makes it worthwhile. The surprising point for me is the prices are almost identical and so it might be worth collecting a Gold Foil here...

A very decent cost for Affliction and with a solid seven health, the Captain's Ghost is likely to last long enough to manage to get a second attempt to impact the Affliction ability. While it is slow with only 1 speed, it does have 2 magic damage which is okay for a 7 mana card. I'd like more damage but it is a single BCX which is not too bad at all really. Probably worth taking to fourth level to gain the additional damage point. Otherwise, worth picking up for a single BCX.

I was shocked to see Dax Paragon with Affliction. I've always liked this card, 2 mana cost and decent enough stats for it to be sufficient. But when I saw Dax appear in this list I was surpised as I'd always had this card as a virtue of light. I guess I had this notion that Affliction was a "dark side" or Death type of ability. Either way, for the cost this is still decent value - but you need to factor in the mana cost in order to see the true value here in my opinion.

Another low mana entry on the Wild list here and for only a single BCX it is worth collecting. 3 mana for 1 magic damage is okay especially as the 3 health help to reinforce the card. Affliction is awesome here as those annoying heals can be stopped in a Little League ruleset. For under 60 cents, I'd say it is worth it. But the Gold Foil edition not so for my budget.

The Undead Archer is available in a couple of different flavours similar to the Goblin chef we mentioned earlier. For a Wild player, a single copy of either of these versions is a great idea as for under 50 cents you get a 2 mana option that can inflict Affliction too. Good value there. Not much else can be said other than the Gold Foil version is on the expensive side and out of my budget for sure!

A very strong 5 mana card with 5 speed and 3 ranged damage. While it is weaker on the health with only 2 in that department, it does utilise Blast alongside Affliction which makes it a bit of a powerhouse in the damage side of things. The price for Affliction in regular copy is pretty decent and worth picking up. But due to availability issues, the Gold foil copy available at the moment is a 16 BCX so massively overpriced for a 5th level Fire Elemental. Worth picking up in Regular Foil if you play Wild.

A very expensive Gold Foil all things considered. The Regular foil here is excellent value and for a third level Legendary, you get some awesome utility too. Swiftness is incredible in the correct rulesets and Opportunity makes this card dangerous. The real star here is the camouflage which stops other cards from targeting this card too early so the Affliction is much more likely to work. An excellent card and worth it for Regular Foil.

A really strong card and Neutral making it even more versatile. With Silence and Affliction you have a nasty combo alongside very strong stats for a Magic caster. 2 damage and 4 speed is excellent for 4 mana and 5 health make this a great card. Although expensive, it will take 115 BCX to max it out. Worth it - yes! Gold foil... probably not considering only 7 copies are on the market and those alone take the cost to around $125 so expect a price around $375 for a max Gold Foil assuming quantity is available.

2 mana Darkest Mage is a marvellous thing. While the stats are low, the mana cost is too making it an effective investment especially once Affliction is earned at 3rd level. 2 mana for Affliction? YES please! But maybe not at the Gold Foil price!

A level 6 Sporcerer is NASTY. It does all sorts of damage with the combination of Rust, Affliction and Silence. Capped off with 3 magic damage and 6 health, it is a great card. You just need to take care of the 2 speed but there are some times I can recall where this card would be the first I pick and build around it. I like the look of it and would love to get my hands on one. Unfortunately only 2 Gold Foil copies are availble. I think this is an indication of how strong this card can be in the right hands.

Lord of Fire is an excellent card for the mana cost. With the ranged attack you get a strong support card which offers great utility which is rare amongst the fire element. For a third level Legendary card the stats are low but Strengthen, Silence and Affliction all make up for it. A good card to have if you can afford it. Unavailable in Gold Foil on the market today!

A summoner with Affliction is very strong. Add in the Void ability and a nice little debuff for ranged attacks and 7 mana is looking like a high but fair price to pay. Certainly some match ups with Death that will benefit from having the Legendary Mimosa Nightshade. I'll probably wait until I am playing in Wild before I pick it up but possibly worth the investment. Gold Foil price is based on the only copy available at a wild price.

The ability that makes Doctor Blight such an interesting option in Modern. A first level Affliction is always nasty in the right match ups as it is normally quite rare until the higher leagues. For 4 mana you get 4 health and 1 attack and speed. But the Camouflage and Affliction are a great combination that can end matches pretty easily. I am looking forward to purchasing one of these. The question right now is do I buy land or Doctor Blight. Either way, it is on my sooner rather than later list. Highly Recommend!
