Portal Spinner, this week: So we have a challenge here if we want to participate in this week's Share Your Battle challenge! ;)
Let us try this way and think of reasons why we could use the Portal Spinner in your and my next match in Splinterlands. Swarm intelligence always delivers better results! ;)
As always my focus is on Silver league in particular. Here you encounter unleveled bcx1 monsters, for the most part.
How could the Portal Spinner convince you to use him?
-It has random target ability. You cannot predict where he hits, but neither does the enemy! In this regard it is by chance better than a unit without any ability at all. Because that unit would probably hit the enemy's tank!
-It has a shield stat, thus it can take at least two hits by even the fiercest of enemies if they are not using magic attack.
-It has 3 health, which is good for taking at least two hits in most of the cases.
-It has 2 attack which is decent.
-It is cheap on the secondary market! Although it is a Rare card, it only costs about $0.08 at the time of writing.
Obviously there are downsides... like a mana cost of 5.
Do not compare him to the Lone Boatman! But then again that guy costs about Portal Spinner x10 in USD (at the time of writing)! I think it is a question of availability here.
Let's go forward to one of my matches including the Portal Spinner:

We are in a low mana battle where the Chain Spinner is my strongest unit on the field. Other rule info: No Healing allowed, Wild format.
Rather surprisingly the Spinner's first shot went straight into the main tank... which is fine with me as it avoids the enemy's thorns.
Spinner's second shot went into the backline and took the Chaos Agent from the field. Fine for me, as well!
In the end the Chain Spinner always hit the only target left, but ensured the victory, as my melee units were taken down by the enemy's thorns.
So in this match any ranged/magic unit dealing 2 points of damage would have granted me a victory, but still it was the Chain Spinner that brought me one more victory here! -As stated above: Sometimes the use of certain cards is a matter of availabilty and with its very low price the Chain Spinner just might be an option in your future battles.
