Land Fever has come! It's been a crazy past couple of days and while we still have a lot of uncertainty, let's see what is currently going on about all things land and what sort of opportunities are there to potentially take advantage of.
DEC and DEC-B Burning
It's been a crazy week for DEC as we almost got back to peg! There's so much DEC needed for surveys, buying starter packs and even buying land off the market that there's so much DEC that's been burned. On top of that, we even had all DEC-B sold, too. In fact, the last 80m DEC-B got snatched up by just 1 player. I was discussing this with a few of our community members and we initially thought that the last 200m or so of DEC-B would take 3 days to get taken out. It took 12 or so hours instead.
There's still a lot of unclaimed and unsurveyed land so there's a high chance that we maintain the current price of DEC at $0.893 per thousand or even get even closer to peg. There was also confusion as to how much DEC was actually circulating in the market as the numbers seemed off as it seemed like the DEC burned that was being funneled to the null account was counted. Yabapmatt took the time to clarify this in one of the discord announcements saying:
sorry for all of the pings, but it was brought to our attention that the circulating DEC supply as reported in-game and on Hive Engine is not counting tokens sent to the "null" account in-game as being burned. This means that the correct circulating supply is actually about 980M DEC tokens less than what is currently being reported. We apologize for the issue and we will work on getting the circulating supply numbers fixed in both places asap.
It's a good time to pay attention to where DEC will sit at in terms of prices. Remember, if it does go over peg, make sure to check out in game to do the conversion of SPS to DEC so that you're able to maximize the burning of SPS to get DEC.
Land Market Price

Now actual price of land has become interesting, too. Land claim prices continue to go up while currently, common land has a floor price of around $60. In the short term at least, I think that land claims will continue to go up. The common land prices however, may fluctuate wildly depending on how the bigger players speculate on how things go. Some of the top whales are throwing some interesting numbers around ranging from a really low value of $20 or $40, to a higher value of $80. The overall difference of those prices become very significant so I would say, if you're at all looking to buy some common land plots, it might be in your best interest to DCA (Dollar Cost Average) things as there's no certainty on which prices the land will fall into. None of this is financial advise so take some time to dig into the numbers. This is more for putting the potential opportunity on your radar more than anything else.
Card Opportunity
All this talk about land has created some interesting things in the card market. A lot of cards have gone down in price so if you have your land secured or if you don't want to play the land game and focus on cards instead, this might be a good time to get in on it. The advent of the land claiming and surveying has made some key cards like summoners go down in price so if you just need those few cards to max out your summoner for your current tier, this might be the best time. I think that the main reason the card prices have gone down is because there isn't enough DEC to go around so some players are trying to liquidate some assets as well as having the main focus be on land currently.
Summoners are a good benchmark to look at. For example, a Lily a couple of weeks back went as high as $39 and has now dropped back to around $25.
While it's good to focus on land, it's also important to take a look at the other areas of Splinterlands as a whole and take advantage of any other opportunities that this whole shift can bring. I personally appreciate that the game is becoming a lot more multifaceted and can be diverse enough to cater to people who are more interested in things like land rather than the battling aspect of things. This will give us more entry towards getting more players from different aspects of gaming to potentially want to dip their toes into the game and help us grow our audience and reach.
