Hi everyone!
This weeks Splinterlands: Battle Mage Secrets challenge is about the Even Stevens ruleset, in which only even mana card monsters may be used.
Only units with even mana costs may be used, this rule does not apply to summoners.
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the splinterlands post here.
Our guild is still looking for members, both new and experienced, check out this post to find out more.
This weeks ruleset...
The rulesets Even Stevens and Odd Ones Out are a bit different than the other rulesets, in most rulesets I have certain line-ups and strategies I use, but with Even Stevens, it's like fighting with one hand behind my back because half my deck is unavailable to play 😅.Playing Silver League and up, we mostly have a combination of two or three different rulesets you need to wrap your head around and make the best possible team with, the battle mage who has the best solution to the ruleset puzzle gets the win.
This ruleset gives me some problems making a nice post though, first, what background am I going to use for my thumbnail? I couldn't find something cool to use, so I ended up using the versus screen right before my battle.
Another problem: what are you going to write about a ruleset you don't have a specific strategy for? So my strategy is really just: finding the best options with the limitations that the game throws to us for this battle.
We have to make do with what we have, - Obsidian right before the battle fighting a bot controlled Tara.
So, my battle was really limited! 😅 20 mana only, even stevens and 3 splinters locked out...
first thoughts: The enemy is spamming fire deck, not the smartest thing, in the last battles, no void tanks being played, so like with every battle I play, I make a team to counter what I guess my enemy will play, earth / magic it is!
My Line-Up:
- Summoner - Obsidian, reason: +1 magic to quickly kill off the fire shielded tank, probably it's going to be Living Lava or Antoid Platoon, they're great, but slow and can't withstand magic damage.
- First position - Xenith Monk, reason: ok speed, but mainly the healing ability, with low mana battles where the opponent is unable to deal massive damage killing the monk quickly, it gets a chance to heal every turn.
- Second position - Fungus Fiend, reason: 0 mana so never wrong, it takes another hit and slowing the enemy down, especially in these low mana battles, a fiend can really make the difference between win or lose. The main reason now is to distract enemy opportunity monsters before they can take out my fragile low health high damage magic monsters.
- Third Position - Queen Mycelia, reason: magic damage, ok health, low mana. Main reason: the Protect ability, giving all monsters +2 armor, giving me some extra protection (read: extra time to kill the enemy team before they kill mine 😁)
- Fourth position - Khmer Princess, reason: only 2 mana cost, good damage after Obsidian's boost, a real glass cannon with only 2 HP.
- Fifth position - Goblin Psychic, reason: so many, it's a great card! healing AND counter healing with the affliction ability and good magic damage.
With this line-up my tanks gets healed twice every round, and because my healers have different speeds (1 and 3) the healing is spread out nice over the entire round.
The Battle....
Round 1: As planned my tank it being healed a lot, and survives the first round, which can't be said for the enemy Xenith Monk.
Round 2: Antoid Platoon is quickly killed too, the enemy team is doing too little damage for the double healing, no chance for the fire team to win this one.
Round 3: With Scavo Firebolt unable to shoot from the first position, it's just sweeping the floor now, a very fast battle, lasting only 3 rounds!
You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.
It's another win! Good RP and SPS earnings for silver league 👌
