Hello community, this post is sharing a battle using the Flying Squid card participating in this week's challenge issued by the Splinterlands team.
Flying Squid is a very interesting card because it has Reach ability, and this allows it to attack from the front line or the second position in the battle.
With good health points and having two Melee attack strengths, it allows it to cause damage to cards with Shield ability.
Moreover in its evolution we can find new skills, Blind and Backfire, where both complement each other, because if Blind allows the chance of Melee and Ranged attacks miss their attack, the Backfire skill allows to cause two damage to the opponent's attack if it misses the target, so the Blind skill will help Backfire to have better effect. With these abilities and its attribute set it is a very good card to upgrade so you can use all its abilities.
For this battle we had negative effects, from Earthquake and Noxious Fumes with plenty of Mana available it was necessary to choose a formation taking into account the negative effects.
So for Summoner I chose Kelya Frendul at level 3 because it allowed me to use Legendary cards at level 2 and allowed me to increase the speed of my cards and give them armor, which would protect them in the first round of Earthquake.
To lead my team, I chose Legionnaire Alvar where besides having plenty of armor, he has the Void Armor ability, where any kind of attack suffered had to pass through his armor first.
In addition, as it is in level 2 of its evolution it has the ability Giant Killer, being a battle with a lot of Mana and negative effects it was likely that the opponent would use cards with a lot of Mana, and thus the ability Giant Killer allow you to cause double damage to cards with 10 or more points of Mana.
Then Flying Squid could attack from the second position and its excellent attack could do good damage to the opponent, and it had good health points to deal with the negative effects for a few rounds.
In the third position Deeplurker is similar to Flying Squid but with Opportunity ability, where it allowed to eliminate the card with the opponent's least health points.
My three positions in the formation were Melee attack, for one reason, because on the fourth position River Hellondale, despite having few health points, its abilities are very important, with Resurrect it allowed to bring back into battle the first card that was eliminated, and in addition it has Inspire ability which will increase the attack damage of my Melee cards.
And for this reason I occupied the three positions of the battle with Melee attacks, for having River Hellondale behind it increased the strength of its attacks.
To finish my team, I chose cards taking into account the negative effects, and try to protect myself from that.
So Phantom of the Abyss having Flying ability only suffered Noxious Fumes.
And finally, Cornealus having Heal ability, allowed you to heal from the negative effects and survive the battle.
The opponent chose a very strong team betting heavily on Magic attack cards, with Taunt ability in the last position, my cards would concentrate their attacks on that card, with the exception of my tank and Flying Squid.
But the opponent's attacks were all concentrated on my frontline card where I had protection with Void Armor.
Due to the high speed of my cards and help from the Inspire ability on the Melee attack cards in four attacks they manage to eliminate the opponent's Taunt card.
And consequently it's Legionnaire Alvar's turn to attack, the Inspire effect together with the Giant Killer ability allows you to cause 8 damage to Grund and eliminate him from the battle.
Incredible how with six attacks my cards can eliminate two cards with 11 Health points each.
At the end of the first round my card Legionnaire Alvar is eliminated, but River Hellondale manages to bring it back into the battle, but despite this, River Hellondale later leaves the battle due to the negative effects, and so my cards lose help from the Inspire ability, but River Hellondale was very useful in the first round of the battle.
Although my Melee attack cards don't have as much attack power anymore, the opponent's cards don't have many Health points, which makes them accessible for my attacks.
So due to the circumstances of the negative effects, the battle doesn't take much longer, ending in the third round, where I didn't end up losing any more cards in the battle.
So I managed to win this very demanding battle thanks to my strategy, I must confess that I like this formation very much, it is very aggressive and efficient, all thanks to being able to use Legendary cards in level 2 where they allowed me to use skills that they didn't have in the initial level and that made all the difference in this battle, the skills Inspire and Giant Killer.
Combining Legionnaire Alvar with Flying Squid allowed them to have enough strength to be able to eliminate Grund from the battle, with help from River Hellondale, where despite being eliminated from the battle she allowed the battle to have this outcome. Despite being protected with Cornealus to survive in Health, it was not necessary to reach that stage of the battle.
