We have three rulesets in effect: Maneuvers, Earthquake and Even Stevens:
RULESET: Maneuvers
Description:
Units with melee attacks gain Reach.
Armored Strike is a melee attack.
Sneak and opportunity override reach.
The Strategy
We have tree rulesets in this battle. Even Stevens basically limits the monsters we can use in this battle. So we really need to consider Maneuvers and Earthquake rulesets. For the Maneuvers ruleset I placed a secondary tank in the second position. Xenith Monk that has a self healing ability which will come in handy to repair the damage done by the earthquake. This is a great self healing tank that is normally used in the small mana rulesets, but here it helps our strategy to keep the opponents damage away from our main damage dealer Usut.
Usut is our main damage dealer with base magic damage of three it can pick up damage and his other stats every time it kills an opponent. Therefore I placed him more towards the back to give him more chances to score. It also has a flying ability so it can last longer in the battle and be completely un-affected by the Earthquake ruleset.
So the strategy here is to out-heal and out-last our opponent.
The Summoner
Astral Entity is a legendary summoner from the Chaos Legion set. This summoner is great to use in battles where I don't expect a lot of magic damage monsters on the opposing team as it makes it more likely for my opponent to miss with melee or ranged attack against any of my monsters. It also resurrects one monster and takes off two armor from the opposing team.
1st Slot - Tank Monster
Cursed Windeku is a great tank for the Death splinter. If it gets killed and resurrected by Astral Entity it has a chance of healing itself to last longer in the battle. It also comes with slow and thorns abilities. With base speed of three, four melee damage and eleven health points it is a great mid mana tank that takes six mana.
2nd Slot - Secondary Tank Monster
Xenith Monk is a great tank for low mana battles. Here I placed him in the second position as Maneuvers ruleset gives Xenith Monk reach ability and so it can attack from the second position. Having two self healing tanks is great.
3rd Slot - Self Healing Bloodlust Monster
Usut is a legendary monster from the soul-bound rewards set. This monster is great for this battle as he has a flying ability and selfheal. It also has a bloodlust and oppress abilities that may come in really handy here. I placed him more towards the back to give him more chances to kill opponents and trigger bloodlust ability which buffs all of his stats.
4th Slot - Support Monster
Doctor Blight is a great support monster that comes in handy in almost any battle. Here I am hoping to use his scavenger ability to help him last longer in the earthquake ruleset as well as weaken all of our opponents and poison and afflict them.
THE BATTLE
Our opponent went with the Life team which has a lot of flying monsters. They are also using Rune Crafter which has Snare ability that might become a problem once they get to the Usut.
In the first round we lost our main tank, but it was resurrected by Astral Entity. We were able to take out their tank and their speed boosting fiend. Not a great start I must admit.
In the second round we did a lot better as you can see from the start of round three we basically won the battle in round two!
We made quick work of the opponent in round tree!
Nice win against a higher rated opponent and 8+ SPS tokens is our reward.
