Here's a link to my battle from a recent tournament.
About the Card: Goblin Psychic
I hadn't realized until looking at the larger picture from the Lore webpage that the Goblin Psychic had so much stylish bling! True to Psychic form, they sport a big hoop earring, a few bejeweled rings, and a bracelet. According to the Lore, the Magi Tower is a sort of Hogwarts school for Goblins. There's nothing specific about this Goblin Mage, but judging from their image, they aren't afraid of using their magic for material gain and pleasure seeking. Status and appearance are important. I sense an air of superiority, perhaps, over their non-magic Goblin inferiors.
This Goblin's specialty, at low levels, is healing. And with 2 magic damage, a tank healer that can also strike a blow is nothing to laugh at! At higher levels they gain afflict, allowing them to heal their team while keeping their opponents from recovering.
The Line Up
Because of the tournament rules, I was using all level 1 cards.
The ruleset was Spreading Fury and Equalizer with a relatively high mana allowance:
Here's the line up
Failed Summoner
Equalizer means this 2 mana card could provide a substantial shield. I was playing Grund, so I knew they would have at least 10 health, which should give my Goblin Psychic time to heal them up at least a few times. This card is such a delightful way to get magic teams to destroy themselves!
In this particular battle, my opponent used no magic so Failed Summoner just became a useful shield for a few rounds.
Grund
I played Grund in Second Position. Usually I have Grund front and center, but, for some reason this round I had a hunch it would be helpful to wear the other team out with my Magic attacks before putting Grund at risk. The Enrage ability puts Grund's Melee attack at 5 and with two attacks per turn, that's a whopping 10 points to take down the other team's defenses. Grund, kept alive by the Psychic, were the heart of this team.
Regal Peryton
The Regal Peryton is one of my favorite cards. Their ability to dodge, combined with some decent health and magic attack boosted by Obsidian made them a great next card. Often this card plays great defense with its usual 6 health points. With an additional 6 health to spare, I was hoping this Bird Deer thing was going to keep my Psychic alive for a long time while my Psychic kept everyone else alive.
Goblin Psychic
GP was next. Protected from the front and as close to the back as possible without putting them at risk. I often find GP dies early with their low 3 health points, but in this ruleset, they were a mighty force to reckon with.
Khmer Princess
Bringing up the rear is the Khmer Princess. Usually at 2 hit points, this magic attack became a substantial sneak bumper to keep my Goblin pumping life into the team.
The Battle
How did it go?
My Failed Summoner's Magic Reflect proved useless, so they mostly were a time buff for my magic attacks to do some early damage. However, Tusk in my opponents front position has Void protection, so that absorbed a bunch of that early Magic fire.
Once Failed Summoner failed, Grund could get in to do some heavy hitting and take out Big Man Tusk.
Somehow it worked out each round that the Goblin healed Grund to almost full health, than Grund was hit with a light enough attack to activate Enrage without putting him in much danger. So with 5 point double strike, the enemy began to fall.
They took out my Princess, but aren't princesses for sacrificing - mythically speaking?
Grund and Goblin. Keeping the gears rolling forward.
G&G.Crushing it.
At some point Tentii Striker actually got Grund down to 1... but than... Goblin Psychic keeps Grund Grinding again!
Some More Thoughts on This Card
GP is a great card if you can keep them alive long enough to do their work. Joined with Obsidian, they are powerful for both attack and sustaining the team. I find they are often picked off early and have a hard time living up to their potential. Equalizer ruleset is clearly a great context for them and usually worth risking a high health card even if that supports the other team's longevity.
