This week's Battle Challenge is dedicated to the Goblin Psychic, a Common Earth Splinter card with a 6 mana cost. In my Battle Challenge, I used a level 1 card because I don't have access to a higher Summoner. Starting at level 4, the card gets the "Affliction" ability, at level 7 "Silence" and at level 10 "Dispel". Those effects improve its already strong support usability quite a bit. Here you can see the stats of the Goblin Psychic:
The Goblin Psychic is a Earth heal and will be the main heal in the Modern Format. With it's 2 Magic DMG it also adds up to the total team DMG quite nicely especially in combination with Obsidian. The biggest disadvantage is his Life and Speed. It is pretty meta in bronze and silver because everyone has access to him. An especially good use for the card is in the Equalizer rule set. Armored Up, Holy Protection and Fog of War also benefit him quite nicely cause they add to his defense. Equal Opportunity and Target Practice doesn’t really benefit him that well cause he’s getting more vulnerable beside the obvious ones Weark Magic and Lost Magic. Compared to Wood Nymph he should rather be used in higher mana matches. In lower Mana Matches Wood Nymph could be the better choice. A double heal setup could also work quite nice.
You’re going to see a nice combination of Taunt from Mycelic Supspawn and the Heal ability from Goblin psychic. Combined with the high Magic Dmg and because Magic attacks ignore shields and Dodge, the water team of my enemy didn’t stand a chance. Here’s the match:
Here you can analyse the battle yourself :)
My opponent went for a solid water setup. He used multiple low life meatshields to block my equalized attacks from his own main attackers. But my Magic Setup bursted to fast through his meat shields and ignored all the shield of his cards. The Mycelic Supspawn was the perfect choice for the Equalizer setup. The Goblin Psychic saved him so many times from dying with his heals, while Mycelic Supspawn stoped enemies from attacking the Goblin Psychic.
My strategy worked relatively well. I was able to show that Goblin Psychic is a great heal and also how well he works with Mycelic Supspawn. Mycelic Supspawn could even turn a rule set that's not so great for Goblin Psychic into an advantage. I like Goblin Psychic especially in the Equalizer rule set. But I play him really often in different rule sets because he is so meta.
