With the recent announcement of the upcoming ECR changes, there's been a lot of talk as to whether or not the additional Energy Recharges are going to be worth spending for.
Under the new Energy system, players will start with 50 Energy and each ranked battle costs 1 Energy to play. Energy automatically recharges at a rate of 1 energy per hour.
Players are able to purchase an additional 50 Energy every 24 hours. The cost to purchase more Energy will vary based on the maximum league between the player's current league, their season chest tier, and their daily focus chest tier, across both Modern and Wild play formats.

Let's look at a comparison of the Energy Recharges vs the EV of their respective Reward Chests.

A Closer Look
In my opinion, if you're looking to purchase a full recharge every day, this could be a fairly expensive endeavor, however it really depends on your league and the time of season.
As we all know, the Reward Pools fluctuate throughout the season, so some players may find their Energy Recharges sustainable through battle rewards, but this might not always be the case. Let's take a look at some historical data from from recent history.
Keep in mind that these numbers can fluctuate quite a bit so what's true here, may not be true for every season

Towards the beginning of a season when the Reward Pools are still full, purchasing an Energy Recharge looks especially beneficial for Champion and Bronze, however, Silver, Gold, and Modern Diamond will leave you net negative.

Towards the end of a season when the Reward Pools are a lot less full, purchasing an Energy Recharge still looks beneficial for Bronze, however, just about every other league will leave you net negative.
Final Thoughts
I think if you're playing Bronze, it makes a lot of sense to purchase Energy Recharges whenever you have enough time to play the battles. If you're just starting out, it might be a little inconvenient that your battle rewards are automatically staked, but it only takes a week to start getting some liquid SPS once you unstake them.
For the rest of the leagues, it really depends. I recommend keeping an eye on the Reward Pools and when the price is right, go ahead and purchase a recharge.
What do you think? Is it worth it to purchase the Energy Recharge for your league?
