I've got this pack of some kind that I probably won from somewhere... and when I try to open it I get a scary message so I click cancel every time!

Yikes! Ok here's how all these packs in Splinterlands work. You open a pack and get 5 cards. However, you can purchase some potions (although players of the game will probably have lots of those just from playing the game) to IMPROVE your chances at getting "Gold Foiled" cards and "Legendary" cards.
TLDR, it's ALWAYS best to only open the packs when you've got those special potions, 5 legendary and 5 alchemist for each pack.
Those potions are soulbound btw.
