In recent years, the gaming world has witnessed a surge in popularity, with card games like Splinterlands captivating the minds and hearts of enthusiasts globally. As an avid player myself, I've been drawn to the intricate strategies, immersive gameplay, and vibrant community that surrounds these games. Yet, my passion for gaming extends beyond the digital realm; I've always been fascinated by the tangible elements that complement these virtual experiences.
This fascination led me to explore the world of collectibles, seeking to bring a tangible aspect to my love for card games. While browsing through various options, I stumbled upon the collectible Monopoly edition themed around "Lord of the Rings". Instantly, I was hooked. The idea of merging the beloved universe of Middle-earth with the classic board game Monopoly sparked my imagination
So, on a cold day last December, in a chain of well-known supermarkets in Greece, I found the specific edition of Monopoly The Lord Of The Rings. While several versions of Lord of the Rings have been released in this game, I believe that this particular version by Hasbro surpasses in quality all the previous and subsequent editions. It transforms the game and imbues it with an incredible mystique that makes you feel like you're not playing Monopoly at all, but something entirely different. The price of this particular edition was around 42 euros, but on that day (as Christmas was approaching rapidly), it was offered at the price of 29 euros, giving a significant discount of about 30%. I didn't miss the opportunity and bought the game, always, however, having in mind how incredible it would be to have such an edition in a Splinterlands version
And at that moment, I experienced the profound beauty of what it would be like to have real Splinterlands miniatures alongside NFTs. Despite the plethora of options existing for other franchises, the absence of genuine Splinterlands miniatures creates a void. Whether acknowledged or not, this void propelled me to embark on the endeavor of customizing the Monopoly - Lord of the Rings board game, envisioning a distinctive outcome that reflects my desire for a Splinterlands-themed edition
However, delving into the customization process of the game and the inception of the idea, I quickly realized the immense challenge ahead. It would be incredibly time-consuming and financially demanding. The 29 euros spent on purchasing the game seemed trivial in comparison to the grand vision I harbored. Nevertheless, I resolved to meticulously document this journey of customization, step by step, and share it with the Hive community, particularly the Splinterlands community. After all, it was the inspiration drawn from Splinterlands itself and my deep affection for it that fueled this undertaking.
In the image below, you can see the game's pawn miniatures as they truly appear. You can observe the incredible detail in these figures, unlike any other edition of Monopoly. If we attempt to solely price these 9 miniatures plus the ring ( without the other components of the game, the board, cards, dice, houses, etc ), believe me, they cost much more than 29 euros when considering that to receive them, we must also factor in their shipping to our doorstep.
My adventure begins, and I'm quite delighted with this initial post..let's see how this customization process of the game will unfold and how much it will ultimately cost something that started with just 29 euros. I'm really curious and I hope you'll join me, and remember!...it's all about Splinterlands in the end..
