I am back in Portsmouth again, staying on Hayling Island. After a long day at work my colleague and I stopped at the Ship Inn for dinner. It was a nice evening, so we went for a walk afterwards.
I have run along the old Hayling Billy railway line on previous visits, but we turned off that at a sign to the Oyster Beds. These turned out to be a series of constructed bays from Victorian times. It seems pollution killed the oyster industry, but now it is a bird sanctuary.
There were masses of birds there making a lot of noise. I recognised terms, gulls and oystercatchers. We also saw a little egret hiding away. As we turned back there were some rabbits grazing in a field. It was getting dark by the time we got back and then there were a couple of deer in the next field. It was too dark for a decent photo. That was a lot of wildlife for a short walk.
Dinner was a veggie burger and chips with a pint of HSB beer. Back at the hotel there had been some conference and there was some chocolate cake left over with nobody about, so I had a bit as my dessert.
