A wildlife walk after dinner

in #sunset2 years ago

I am back in Portsmouth again, staying on Hayling Island. After a long day at work my colleague and I stopped at the Ship Inn for dinner. It was a nice evening, so we went for a walk afterwards.

Sunset

I have run along the old Hayling Billy railway line on previous visits, but we turned off that at a sign to the Oyster Beds. These turned out to be a series of constructed bays from Victorian times. It seems pollution killed the oyster industry, but now it is a bird sanctuary.

Birds

There were masses of birds there making a lot of noise. I recognised terms, gulls and oystercatchers. We also saw a little egret hiding away. As we turned back there were some rabbits grazing in a field. It was getting dark by the time we got back and then there were a couple of deer in the next field. It was too dark for a decent photo. That was a lot of wildlife for a short walk.

Dinner

Dinner was a veggie burger and chips with a pint of HSB beer. Back at the hotel there had been some conference and there was some chocolate cake left over with nobody about, so I had a bit as my dessert.

Looks like an awesome evening. Kind of also motivates me to do better with the pics that I post using actifit. I do try to get at least one. !LUV

I'm no great photographer, but I think the stories that go with the pictures add value.

very beauriful place and nice dinner.

Mmmmmh, hungry!

A very nice place to work.. much nicer to where I am right now.. haha
There will be more industries destroyed by pollution.. still we keep saying, that everything we do is to protect jobs.. mankind is a very frustrating species.. 😟
Might see you on Sunday? If it's on..

That looks like a really cool place to walk! It is nice that so much wild life has come back into the area after being polluted like that. Too bad it had to get that bad for them to do anything about it though. The chips look tasty!

Local industry will have changed a lot in a century. It's still a major commercial and navy port though.

Cool nature travel pics.

Chocolate cake is good anytime. I've enjoy leftover chocolate cake for breakfast with black coffee, as a post-meal dessert, or as a late night snack with a cold glass of milk.

Chocolate is one of the drugs I indulge in. It doesn't need much for a 'hit' :)

I've never been to Hayling Island, it looks lovely. I like that stretch of south coast, had many a great holiday on the Isle of Wight.

I don't think I've been to the Isle of Wight. I've only seen part of Hayling, but I'll probably be back. The hotel is off the main road and it's surprisingly hard to get out due to all the traffic.

Lovely sunset 😀

I've been to that place. What a beautiful sunset. I have amazing sunset shots I took there many years ago. Haven't been back since.

It's convenient for where I work down there, but not too much to do apart from walking around. I've been running there too. I ought to explore more of the island.
