Why You Should Consider Farming as a Career (Seriously)

When I was young, I was told that I could become anything I wanted: a doctor, a scientist, a teacher, a comedian even. But no one suggested I become a farmer. I was left to wonder why.

Well I finally realized that farming doesn't receive the recognition and support it deserves. Others would agree with my opinion. I believe it's time to change that. So I am here to encourage you to consider farming as a career.

Here are the reasons why.

Always in demand: no farmer, no food

Farming related jobs are always in demand. After all, everyone needs to eat. So we need people to be working in the production of our food. Our population is ever-growing, this means more mouths to feed. We need more farmers. Right now the opportunities are endless, you just have to be creative and open to a non-traditional approach when it comes to farming.

Better quality of life

Farmers do tend to have a better quality of life due to their lifestyles. Lack of exercise and bad eating habits are the most common issues people in other professions have. Most farmers may be living simple and prudent lifestyles but they do tend to eat better and well, exercise more (not in a gym though.) It’s part of the job, one of the perks I should say.

Does Farming Bring Success.png

Job satisfaction

Farmers whether working in fields, taking care of livestock, or maintaining a food forest or garden are happier compared to ordinary office workers. Though work could be physically demanding, farmers earn what they sow. As a farmer, you will be the one to reap all the fruits of your labor, not someone higher up the corporate ladder. Who wouldn't be satisfied with that?

I understand, you have your doubts.

But farming is hard work

So does office work or any other job for that matter. I worked as an office rat and to tell you, I always come home dead tired. As a farmer, I always come home dead tired as well. The difference? I am satisfied and happy with what I do right now.

You can't be rich farming

If money is your true measure of being rich, then farming may not work for you. As with many other careers, if you don't put dedication and hard work on it, you'll eventually fail and end up piss poor.

On the other hand, finding your true calling in farming no matter the odds is an immeasurable gift. Working with nature, being a steward of plants and animals, enjoying both sunshine and rain- those are priceless and could never be valued monetarily.

Uhm, are you blind?

You want me to be become a farmer even though you are well aware of the current situation of PH agriculture?

Yes, indeed. That's actually one of my driving force and motivation to be and to stay in this field. I want to do something about it. I want our agriculture sector to improve. No matter how small- I want to contribute. Because if not me or you my fellow countryman, who will?

Consider farming as a career, why not?

Farming may not be as glamorous or glorified as a job compared to any profession but it does give you the basics. As a farmer, you could be happy, healthy, and truly rich.

If wealth, happiness, and good health are the true measure of success then I believe that a farmer has an equal if not greater chance of being truly wealthy, healthy, and successful. Give it a go and see for yourself!

Keep growing,
