Daihatsu P3 & P5
The P5 sports racing car was built by Daihatsu in 1967 and was an evolution of the Daihatsu P3 based upon the Compagno (front engine) 800-1000cc production car. Two P3s entered the Japanese Grand Prix in 1966/67 and fought against the large displacement cars, such as Toyota 2000 GT & Prince R380 (Nissan).
The P5 was created with a purpose built race chassis and featured a more powerful mid-mounted 1.3-litre DOHC 4-cyl engine producing 140 hp.
Limited history is available but entries in the Japanese GP in 68/69, Toyota bought Daihatsu in 1969.
