Write.Save.Travel.Repeat. - Portland, Maine (Final Day)

in #travel2 years ago

I can’t stress enough how good it was to travel again, especially someplace new. I’ve been wondering why my writing has been in such a slump these past few years. I discovered the lack of travel and new experiences is a big part of it. I’ve returned from Maine with lots of ideas swirling around in my head.

Harbor Fish Market

We got a late start on our last full day but we made the most of it. We visited Harbor Fish Market in Old Port. The instant you walked in the door it smelled like the sea. It’s really too bad we didn’t have access to a kitchen in our bed & breakfast or else we would’ve run up a huge tab at this place.

Eastern Promenade

After our visit to the fish market we decided to take a walk down the Eastern Promenade trail. This park was much larger and nicer than the Western Promenade that was within walking distance of our Inn. Since recreational cannabis is legal in Maine the smell of it was everywhere (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

As you can see the weather was gorgeous and this was the perfect way to enjoy the last bit of sunshine and salt air on the very last full day of our trip.

Scales

We had our final dinner in Portland at a restaurant, fittingly called, Scales.

I had the seafood stew and Raymi ordered the baked haddock entree. Both dishes were okay but, honestly, we weren’t blown away. The ambience of the restaurant was great though, it was situated right on the harbor in Old Port.

Travel Day

We had a mid-afternoon flight out of Portland with a connection at JFK in New York City. We grabbed a quick lunch in Old Port then made our way to the airport. One thing we learned about Portland is most of the shops close early, it's much like a small town in that sense. I would definitely recommend a visit for anyone looking for a weekend getaway. The city is beautiful and compact and you can experience quite a bit of it in two or three days.

The Portland airport is one of the smallest I’ve ever seen but well run, clean, and you could even buy Bitcoin at their regular ATMs!

Here’s a link to a montage of most of our photos on my YouTube channel. If you’d like to see photos of more of our past and future trips please subscribe.

I hope you've enjoyed this journey to Portland, Maine!

Be well, live boldly, and take chances.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Upgrade your life experience today for only $15.99 on Amazon.com.

Now I really want to visit Maine and experience what it would feel like to be in a place where cannabis is legalized.

A lot of States in the US are legalizing now. Minnesota recently legalized up to 2% THC.

Wow.
The world is jumping on the moving train and I just hope my country becomes a part soon.

Great story

Thank you! That quote is so true. Traveling really ignites my imagination.

I discovered the lack of travel and new experiences is a big part of it.

Traveling and having an intense affair with nature always complements your creative writing.

As you can see the weather was gorgeous and this was the perfect way to enjoy the last bit of sunshine and salt air on the very last full day of our trip.

The blue color catches my eye.

The Portland airport is one of the smallest I’ve ever seen but well run, and clean, and you could even buy Bitcoin at their regular ATMs!

Wow, that's really good to observe for a crypto holder. I think Bitcoin and crypto are slowly becoming a part of the assets of everyone's life.

There's just something about breaking out of the normal routines of life that stirs up the writing muse. I was surprised to see Bitcoin available at a regular bank ATM machine. I've seen standalone BTC ATMs but never a regular bank/fiat ATM that also allows you to buy BTC. That is really a sign of adoption.

You really had a great outing Andi love every photos taken which looks very nice and seems like I was there myself thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Nature is beautiful I love the see look of the waters and mostly the background all if the pictures, it is very nice.

I wish I could've transported that beauty back here.

If you are not familiar with the crypto subjects, there are few alternatives to write on HIVE. One of them is travel post which I have written recently.

You really have a great time over there looking at the pictures shared

The places you visit are so beautiful. The view is amazing

It was a very pleasant trip. I also enjoy your journey through your writing, Eric. Have a nice day.

So glad you enjoyed it Eliana! Enjoy your weekend!

That is really cool. Sorry the food wasn't up to par in the one place but the decor looked cool. I really dig that ceiling fan. Have you ever been to one of those places where the fans just run off a belt from one central fan? I saw that at a bar up north a couple of years ago. It was really cool.

Thank you! It's really hit or miss for us in restaurants since the pandemic. The restaurant we ate in the night before was phenomenal and a little less expensive. We were both so happy to have a home cooked meal after eating out for four days! I can tell we're getting older. : ). Scales had a set up like that for their ceiling fans! One central fan powered a few others with a belt. Very cool! I once toured an old blacksmith shop in the Deep South and that's how they used to run all of the machinery, off of one central steam engine. They would just connect the belt to whatever they needed to use. A very smart set-up!

Yeah, I know what you are saying about the home cooked meal. There are sometimes when we are travelling and we eat out all the time and we just want something lighter. We have been getting take out a lot since the pandemic versus eating in at places. The only problem with that is the food gets a little meh by the time you get it home.

In larger cities we can usually find some healthy options but the food was all so heavy in Portland. Even a lot of the seafood, which is usually healthy, was either fried or drowned in butter and cream. We're definitely enjoying our normal diet now.

We just started going inside of restaurants this past spring but still do the occasional take-out when we need something quick.

That's my problem with seafood. I only usually eat it if it is fried. Thus negating most of the health benefits of it! I used to do more baked salmon than I do now, but with my wife not liking fish it makes it hard. She wishes she did, she just can't do it!

I had the seafood stew and Raymi ordered the halibut entree. Both dishes were okay but, honestly, we weren’t blown away.

I rarely eat fish, because it is very expensive in my country (in Hungary), but I love it. Even the regular foods became very expensive in the recent past.

The seafood in Maine was the best I’ve had anywhere but it wasn’t cheap either. It’s getting more and more scarce due to overfishing.

I have worked 3 years on a fish restaurant and I know the feeling of being there , for some people the smell is not so good but I love it I have learned a lot of things from that work.
Also I love watching this city, looks like you had amazing days there . ✌🏻🤍

I've did a lot of restaurant work when I was younger, it's not easy! Seafood is my favorite but it's impossible to find it here in Minnesota as fresh as we did in Maine. Yes, it was a lovely trip!
