There are some not to do things here.
The Rolex I bought in Hong Kong 10 years ago, it is as fake as the hat I bought yesterday marked "Louis Vuitton" and at 45,000RP or £2.80 we all know it is fake. I bought the hat as wearing a helmet in the heat here is unbearable as I found out yesterday.
Wearing a real Rolex could get your arm cut off, not only here but in many countries, so to be avoided at all cost, as is wearing gold.
Even carrying my Nikon camera is a risk as it cost 26 million RP.
Those 2 beautiful souls left today.
I digress.
It is cheap to live in Bali, if you are willing to not over indulge and to not want 5 star everything. For instance, my laundry came back today, 3kg and it cost less than £2.
Things to not do are take a taxi from the airport, like most countries it is better to book one in advance, booking.com offers this service and it is a lot cheaper than risking a chancer taxi at the airport.
I was taken for a ride here for £35 when it should have been 10, but the same happened in Warsaw. So it is not just an Asian thing.
A beer here is also cheap at 620ml is less than £2 from a shop.
The local wine is terrible and looks like it tastes, like dishwater.
They have a local moonshine called araq and it too is very cheap, though again not very nice. IMO.
You can find some really cheap accommodation and again booking.com is the place to be for that.
Renting mopeds is actually more expensive here than renting a Honda cbr400rr in Thailand. Speaking about bikes, the locals here like to remove the brakes from theirs, insanity at it's finest. You can pay as much for a moped as a room for a month, again it does not make sense.
That is a shop, a market, a petrol station and a temple all in 1, the west has a lot to learn lol.
Some trivia facts AKA useless information.
Bali is mainly Hindu, has 8 kings and also has 8 deadly snakes.
Much of the land is given up to rice fields.
Around 4 or 5 container ships bring goods here each day, being an island.
99% of the locals will quite literally do anything to help you.
The village I went to yesterday in the mountains had around 50 people in it, there was 1 father to most of them and 9 wives.
I have what the tourists call Bali belly.
It is the second day now of extreme stomach pain followed by as we say, the runs, or needing the toilet badly, multiple times.
So my mornings start off slowly with not being able to go far.
Avoid ice in drinks at all costs as that causes this. I made the mistake 2 days ago of having a drink from a frosted glass and again last night by tasting the dishwater wine, it is taken as offensive if you do not try it or finish it, I sipped it
and my buddy from South Africa helped me out and finished it, his metabolism is obviously way better than mine.
I did seem to offend some people by refusing to eat a bowl of pig soup, mine had a pigs trotter in it (foot) nails and all, and when asked why I would not eat it I offered them my foot to eat, they all laughed and I ate some pig skin (crackling) which seemed to stave off the offended.
I want to do some shots today of the ridiculous things people carry on a moped, like trees, 4 or 5 people on a bike etc, so will park up next to the main road and take some pics, as soon as my stomach permits.
Off for a bacon omelet now with toast and at £2.50 why not.
The g20 security seems to be increasing so I am expecting security check points next.
Anyway, have a superb day ahead.
Peace and out.
