Donald Trump and the Countdown to Election Day

in #trump7 months ago

I just got done watching the closing night of the Republican National Convention, which was closed out surprisingly by a (pretty decent) opera singer. Donald Trump gave the speech of his life, and was much more subdued than he's ever been, no doubt due to the events that took place last Saturday.

I wonder what foreigners think of our massive political conventions and the American election process in general?

Does anybody else quite do it like we do?

Trump was wise to smooth the sharp edges of his usual stump speech, and aside from immigration, he stayed away from divisive stances on subjects. I thought the kinder, gentler, Donald was a smart pivot, and I could see his message reaching the centrists in the middle that actually decide most elections.

I thought he was very effective when taking us step-by-step through his thought process as the shooting was unfolding. This will connect with a lot of viewers, and humanizes him in a way we've never seen before.

Looks like the Democrats have some work to do if they hope to counter this...

Despite not being a Republican (or a Democrat either), I'm honestly happy that Trump survived the attempt, as I hate to imagine what would have happened if he hadn't. Having said that, I'm still worried as we have 4 long months until election day, and anything can happen between now and then.

Reports are that Trump and Vance have a rally scheduled for this coming weekend (I believe?) in Michigan. I'll be on the edge of my seat hoping we've seen the last of election-related violence, and that he and however the Democrats end up nominating, make it to election day peacefully.

I'm still concerned though, as it almost feel as if the room is wired with explosives, and we're all racing against a timer to find our way out.

Word is that Biden is finally really considering dropping out, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Question is: will he just drop out and remain President, or drop out and resign? If he did so, it would give Harris more of a boost than if he remained in office. I'm truly astonished at just how quickly things have changed since the start of the year, and how much more the pot could be stirred between now and November.

Every once in awhile we'll see a small convoy of vehicles come in from beyond the suburbs, laden with Trump signs and honking their horns. My area is so liberal that anyone who actually IS a Republican wisely keeps a low profile about it.

The political divisions are very pronounced, so much so that if anything happens to Trump, I'd be worried about how MAGA nation would react.

Fingers crossed so that we can all get through this peacefully together as Americans, and put country before politics.

I watched a little of it here and there, but nothing of any length. I was hopeful that things would tamper down after the attempt on his life, but I don't think that is going to happen. We are in for some chaos in this country one way or the other. I just hate that it is going to happen too.

I was heartened to see that he was calm given what happened to him last Saturday, and have my fingers crossed that we'll make it to election day without too much trouble (hopefully).

Sending Love and Ecency Vote!

Thanks for the support! :)

I agree I thought the speech was very smart the way he played it. Apparently there was a completely different speech written before Saturday. I too am not for either party, because the 2 party system is trash (well, really I am more anarchist than anything), but that being said, the Dems have NO chance in a pink haired hell of winning at this point, of course I may be wrong, but the events of the last week have shifted some centric and independent voters to Trump, I know this from talking to people out in the real world about it. I had 2 people who were life long dems say they were voting Trump because the Democratic party is not what it used to be and that they have completely destroyed America.

But again, this is politics and you have to take what is said at face value. The only real talk is the action...

You're doing what I did back in 2016 talking and more importantly, listening to the people around you. I know my state of Pennsylvania. I'm seeing the same thing I saw back in 2016. The reports of Clinton being six points ahead didn't jibe with what I was seeing. She couldn't replicate the huge crowds and waves of genuine enthusiasm that was lacking amongst her supporters.

I was a Bernie Bro back then, and we were SEETHING about the way our guy had not only been robbed, but disrespected as well. I warned everyone that we would stay home if things didn't change, and we did. I remember she said she didn't NEED us to win, and we were like "don't worry honey, cause you're not getting us." The hubris was astounding.

Last time they dissed Bernie (twice), this time they can't be bothered to show RFK even a modicum of respect.

If Joe drops out, Harris? Really?

They're not listening AGAIN.

Illegal immigration is KILLING the job prospects of US citizens in my state. I see it every day here in PA. Everyone here is fed up that Biden seems to care more about the citizens of a foregin country in Europe than the struggling Americans, and homeless military veterans we have right here at home.

You would be SHOCKED at just who I see going into and coming out of the Trump campaign office in my city. There's a lot of "I've never voted for a Republican before, but I'm fed up."

The Democrats better do something...

Everyone knows what we saw last Saturday. Trump's core supporters will walk through fire to vote for their man, and now, he's added even more centrists and moderates to his column.

Is anybody listening? It appears that one man hears the people of Pennsylvania loud and clear...

Oh man. It's so hard to find a decent job it's not even funny. The worst part is that I am now a middle aged white man that can think for himself, and nobody wants that shit. They want the DEI bullshit, or some cheap ass immigrant that will do the work for next to nothing.

I honestly was better off under Trump, can't even lie about that, even with all the COVID bullshit. Hell, I was making money off of the little scared sheep locked up in there homes, so even then I was doing great. But as soon as Biden's ass hit office, everything started to go to complete hell. So based on all that, I don't think another Trump presidency will be a bad thing. Only people I see screaming about him getting back into office are the mixed letter alphabet cult and people that thinks happiness is killing unborn babies because they don't want to deal with responsibilities.
