I was cleaning out my bookshelf and came across my old copy of the 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons DM's Guide.
The first thing to do is layout the ground rules. Taking a look at the introductory paragraphs for Appendix A (image to the left) you will see the following:
Discretion must prevail at all times
This will be rule 1, 2 & 3 and I interpret it to mean if I don't like the outcome of a roll I will change it however I see fit.
Rule 4 - The dungeon will be sized to fit only one sheet of graph paper
Rule 5 - I will use Google "Dice Roller", Wizards Dice Roller, or actual dice what ever works best.
Rule 6 - Have Fun. If no one is having fun this is a complete waste of time.
STEP 1
Roll for the starting area. In the DMG we are presented with five different starting areas
We will use the online dice roller to determine which one we will start with.
1 is rolled on the d5
So at this point our dungeon looks like this:
If anyone likes what I am doing here and wants to see the contents or has any other suggestions throw them in the comments below.
I will try and get each step out on a regular basis till the dungeon is complete, hopefully 2 to 3 per week.
These kobolds don't stand a chance against this dragon. I'm guessing it is a green dragon because it is breathing a cloud of gas.
This artwork was signed DAT, I assume that must be D.A. Trampier one of the illustrators listed on the first page of the DMG.
