The Helgonen are this Chapter’s equivalent of the usual Blood Angels Death Company.
However, when a Battle Brother begins to see visions of Horus slaying Sanguinius, they are not treated as “lost”.
Instead, after whatever engagement they have participated in, they are immediately returned to the Chapter’s Fortress Monastery along with their squad. There, the Prime Blooded Ancient, Jebidi Garth, will begin a ritual that will descend the Marine into a deeper connection with the Black Rage, or “Vision of Blood” as they call it.
The Vision of Blood is seen as a pure genetic connection to their gene father, Sanguinius, and thus when a Marine is consumed by it they are treated as “Sanctified Saints”.
Once a Brother is “Sanctified”, he will be adorned in an obsidian black suit of armor bearing many, many blood related iconography. Unlike standard Death Company they do not feature the usual X markings. Their heads are then permanently sealed within a deep, ruby red helmet with brilliant yellow glowing eyes which are a representation of Sanguinius’ holy gaze.
Unlike most other Death Companies, the Helgonen are not entirely insane barbarians. Thanks to their early and willing release to the Vision of Blood they are more calm and relaxed. Although, they are still savages to the core. Unlike the Edarna and Blodshelgonen, the Helgonen are not made to swear an oath of silence. Instead however, they are provided with extra powerful vox amplifiers that are used to deafen and daze even Astartes. Their Rage and brutality made to be heard by all.
When a Helgonen of the Basilisks and a Berzerker of Khorne meet, the sheer savagery of their duel is enough to make any mortal being weep in awe and fear.
Such is the measured and calmed fury, of the Sanctified Saints.
