He reached out to me and said, “you are my tutor in the meantime, so, how do we get started? What do I need to do first?” it was so good to see the eagerness to get started on the journey on his part. I like to see people that are willing to learn, so I was excited that I was going to have a good relationship with my student.
Somehow, the chats graduated into calls, and he won’t stop calling daily. It was burdening to be honest, because when the calls came in, it was always around the periods I was busy or was unwilling to receive calls. However, he didn’t stop.
He took it a step further to pay me a visit at my uncle’s where I was staying for some reasons. Before he arrived, he had asked that I sent him a document, however, I couldn’t because my laptop was having some issues that needed to be fixed, so I told him I couldn’t and the reason why I couldn’t. surprisingly, he volunteered to fix my laptop for me.
So, the major reason for visiting me at home was to help me get my laptop fixed. Well, was he able to fix it? No, he wasn’t. His engineers didn’t understand the problem, so he returned the laptop to me unfixed, however, he fixed something.
I didn’t know that my laptop charger was about to add to my expenses until he informed me. In fact, when he returned my laptop, I didn’t notice any change until he mentioned that my laptop charger which I had wrapped with some black tape exploded one day when he plugged it and was about to connect it to my laptop. He jokingly said, “thank God it wasn’t with you, else, you probably would’ve cried”. Honestly, I most likely would have cried.
Instead of bringing me a burnt laptop charger, he gave me another one that’s working effectively without any fault or tape. Did I thank him? I don’t remember clearly, but I definitely would’ve said it.
On getting to the engineer that would fix my laptop, I discovered that my laptop battery was swollen and might have left my laptop in a devastating state had I not discovered it earlier. Actually, I wasn’t the one that discovered it. It was my new friend that took it away to fix the last time. He mentioned to me that the battery was swollen and how important it was for me to get it fixed soon or remove it completely from the laptop. Honestly, I didn’t have the money, but prevention they say, is better than cure.
On his advice, I stayed off the laptop until I was able to raise the money to change the battery, but I don’t think I remembered to appreciate his advice because he saved me twice; one from having to spend an extra to buy another charger, and secondly, prevented me from a possible explosion because I usually would’ve been on the system from morning till night and would’ve had to charge an already swollen battery at interval.
Sometimes, the things we see as little are not so little at all. I appreciate his efforts, but I didn’t remember to appreciate him so much for it. It’s not because I am an unappreciative person, rather, it’s because of the many things jumbled in my head and the many happenings at the same time that made me forget to do that. I have said a “thank you” to him for many other things he did. However, these ones topped it all, and even though I have said the usual “thanks”, I wish my head was not so occupied so that I would’ve understood the gravity of the help he rendered.
