The funny thing is that it wasn't my coffee mug initially. It was part of a small dinnerware set for a single person, containing one dinner plate, one cereal bowl, and this coffee cup with a saucer that my mom bought for my daughter when she was little (maybe just 4 or 5 years old).
Dinner plate and cereal bowl, my daughter was using almost from day one while the coffee mug we were afraid to give her not only because she could break it but because she bit off the glass before, and with the mouth full of glass' parts frightened us to death. After that, she was allowed to use only plastic cups. Therefore, we put the coffee mug away for the day when she would grow up enough to use it.
But when the time came, it turned out that she was more interested in using some other cups and mugs for her morning cocoa or tea.
About 15 years ago, when my old coffee mug shattered, and when I was thinking with which one to replace it, my daughter told me, "Mom, why don't you use this one, if you like it?!"
Of course, I like it, but it wasn't my coffee mug. It was my mother's gift to my daughter, and I thought it wouldn't be right to use it, not to mention how I would feel if, by accident, it breaks. But my daughter was persistent, and by telling me how she was not going to use it, she finally convinced me.
When my daughter got married and left home several years ago, I thought she might want to take that coffee mug with her, but she didn't.
A funny coincidence is that this past Saturday when she came to visit us, she asked me about that whole dinnerware set as she didn't recall who bought it for her anymore.
Unfortunately, the cereal bowl broke first long ago, while the dinner plate survived until a couple of years ago when it fell and broke too, leaving this coffee cup with a saucer as the only remaining pieces of the whole set.
Therefore, I thought again, my daughter might finally want to take this coffee mug, and I offered her to do so, but she smoothly refused without a single second thought.
In the end, she even told me, "Mom, I really want you to keep that mug and enjoy it! Besides, this coffee mug on your worktable is an avoidable part of the picture that I have about you!"
At that time, I didn't know about the Hive 5 reward campaign for "My Favorite Coffee Mug" on Waivio, which would become a perfect fit for my story, while I'm going to continue enjoying my coffee in my favorite coffee mug!
