I had a check up this week at the optometrist on Robson Street. I noticed eye floaters which are small specs in my vision and went for a fully comprehensive check up. Also with family history of cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. For glaucoma I learned my risk to develop it during my life is 28 times the normal risk due to a direct family member having it but that it's unlikely in my 30s or 40s anyway. More likely in 60s.
I learned also eye floaters are normal with age and there's not much I can do to prevent future eye floaters so it may get worse stay the same or maybe become less noticeable but it's out of my control. If something gets worse I'll again to get check.
Along with eye floaters I had some flashes of bright light so the doctor dilated my eyes and checked for retinal detachment which can lead to blindness. Luckily I don't have retinal detachment so that's a relief too. So he said my eyes were normal or good for my age, i.e. nothing seriously wrong and then gave me a slightly updated prescription.
My health anxiety can go away for a few days until I over think about something else.
There was a friendly dog at the shop while I was waiting so that was good :)
