Wednesday Walk: A Stroll Down Memory Lane

in #wednesdaywalklast month

I can't remember the last time I ate decent bread. By “decent” I mean a big size real good loaf. No thanks to the high cost of food products in the market.

Bread was more like a common food. I remember not more than three years ago, I could easily get a sizeable loaf of bread and two fist sizes of ‘akara’(bean cake) for just N300 which would do for breakfast. But today, even with 1000 Naira, bread and akara is like a beggar's meal.
Cost of living is killing the living. Prices of things are quiet on the high, and keep rising. Well, this is Nigeria.

A lot of people have been forced to adjust their spending lifestyle as well as their feeding patterns and routines. No more “three square meals” in some homes. A lot of “cutting down” I tell you. Many didn't see it coming.

There have been calls for the government to be deeply concerned and do right by the people. The high cost of petroleum products has affected the prices of every other thing in the market.

I was supposed to leave very early to work but I remembered there was a transaction that didn't go through, so I had to visit my bank. On my way from the bank, I saw this van delivering bread at a shop, which made me realize I haven't eaten bread in a long while. Very funny. I might just grab a big loaf this evening. I hope I remember.
