I wonder how long ago my first #wednesdaywalk was. A long time ago, our friend @tattoodjay started the movement and it matches well with the Make me Smile Collaboration challenge lead by @elizacheng.
This week, I am heading downtown to watch the streets awaken.
Out early for a bit of an errand run, the late summer sky is still a warm, clear blue! This is a new development on the west side of town finally gaining some form as lesser expensive row houses to alleviate some of the housing shortage we have.
Walking past a market stand, I may be denying that it is pumpkin spice season and will instead choose Mum season! JUST discovered that Mums are just a short form for chrysanthemums! Nice seasonal colour while some other flowers start to fade.
Downtown, the streets are just starting to wake up. This is one of the main streets heading into downtown and there is little enough traffic to take a shot from the middle of the street safely. You can see our @town-crier www.towncriermarketing.ca office on the left near that orange umbrella.
Heading closer to the square, the pubs are still sleeping and will be for the morning. Same blue skies over my head as I head to the city center for an early meeting.
I always love to stop and snap a pic of the square with City Hall standing guard on its north end. Always something going on here and the Dragon Boat is taking center stage, promoting the upcoming dragonboat festival.
I am about 10 minutes early for my meeting so what better excuse to grab a coffee and relax on one of the Muskoka chairs in the square? I spend so much time bustling, it almost fees weird sitting a few minutes and enjoying the nice weather.
So nice to pick out all of the old buildings and think of some of their historic past. How many businesses have called these home and the story each could tell.
City Hall stands tall and proud as it has for over a century. How many beautiful September days it has seen and the number of people who walk around its feet over the decades is neat to think of.
Down a couple blocks, the flowers are still blooming and I see the city guy in the watering truck visiting each flowerbed in the downtown core. Love how they care for the flowers even past the peak summer season.
There are a couple businesses and buildings for sale in this row of historic buildings. We are building plans to take advantage of a big deal we hope to land and waiting for a specific building with a brewery and 2 apartments to drop in price. Both may not happen and someone else may swoop in to buy it but we will be prepared otherwise!
Back home, a walk in the garden produces some sweet results. Tomatoes of different sorts are red for the picking and go so well in so many dishes. The caution I have is adding the cherry bomb hot peppers to this handful in case someone mistakes them for tomatoes. What a spicy surprise that will be.
I wrap my day up with a walk in the dog park with my little dood. He doesn't care what time we go and always keeps a close eye on me in case I make a move toward the door.
These #WendesdayWalk days really help me live in the moment and appreciate the little things. Even better when I can share them with the world and invite everyone to walk with me in this small Canadian town.
