This #WednesdayWalk, I bring you into the frozen tundra with the community for Winterfest! I have a bunch of highlights to get through as it took me a while to pare it down to only 15 so I will picture more and talk less!
This year, I was voluntold by a friend that I was to be on the Winterfest Committee. When I asked why, he said it would be fun, I am a community guy and they could use a little promotion that comes with involving a marketing company. All good reasons and, a dozen coordination meetings later, Winterfest 2025 was upon us.
This is Zoltan the Adequate who performed his fire-eating, magic, comedy show for the crowd gathered to view from the snowy benches.
One of the features was the live ice sculptors. A couple hours with picks and saws and such turned this pattern to life as a crystal snowman.
My contribution was helping the local semi-pro hockey team become involved. They brought their 20-foot tall inflatable hockey dood and hosted the shootout activity for kids.
There were even dogs in attendance including these little skinny pups in their white coats.
This fella showed up early, set up his blacksmith operation and stood there all day in a sweater& cap with no gloves! Warm enough by the forge and used to the cold for sure but I bet those ears were frosty.
Another act on the bandshell was this group of lumberjacks! Very entertaining show of speed-sawing, carving and chopping demonstrations that was good for a few laughs as well.
There were a few campfire zones to warm up at with what are called Muskoka chairs up in these parts.
This was a group that setup and offered maple taffy made in the snow.
One of the local family insurance companies keeps this old firetruck restored and running. Nice to see it out at community events where the kids can see the vintage stuff.
Great line up of food trucks offering freshly popped gourmet popcorn, free coffee and hot chocolate, and a bbq tent with a 24 foor smoker blasting all day. Brisket tacos? Would recommend.
The petting zoo is always a hit, featuring llamas, alpacas, goats and other farm animals.
A little winter won't stop a bunch of Canadians from enjoying minigolf!
The day was getting pretty long with all the shows, events and fun. I had to take a final show of the snow men. Each was decorated by a different local primary school.
The winning design ended up being this Michael Jackson complete with sparkling glove!
