Now when I saw the topics for this week I kept thinking of what I could write about while scrolling until i reached the last topic: “Passion”.
If someone had asked me what I was passionate about three months ago, I honestly wouldn’t have an answer because I was still confused, I am still confused but no one said I had to have everything figured out. Right now I’m still exploring and who knows? I might find something else I’m passionate about.
I’m passionate about two things; one is writing while the other one is cooking. For me writing stories or anything at all just comes easily to me, it flows through me I would add. I might not have any idea of what to write about a story or how it should go or end but once I start writing, ideas just flow out of me. I’m grateful for that because I know a lot of people who struggle with writing down things but it just comes easily to me.
That’s not the passion I want to dwell upon in this post. I want to talk more about cooking.
I remember when I was much smaller I always wanted to attend a ‘catering school’ as I would call it then but apparently where I am from (Nigeria) most parents wouldn’t allow their child forfeit their university education just to go to a culinary school. They believe it’s something you don’t have to pay to learn. Now I’m in university and I still plan on attending a culinary school probably after I graduate, maybe for six months or so because it’s quite expensive here and sadly my parents won’t pay for it.
How did I know I was good at cooking? Well my friends tasted my food and couldn’t get enough of it.
Someone offered to pay me for the first time to cook for his birthday party. And it went so well that everyone kept asking “who made this?”.
Second shot was when my department in school was hosting a games night so I bought a stand and sold beef kebabs. My stand was actually the first to sell out which made me so happy because I was so stressed preparing them. There was no one there to help me.
So what do I do with my passion for cooking now?
I’ve actually considered cooking on contract probably for small gatherings and birthday…but always a small crowd but then again can I do it? Would I be consistent with it? Can I combine it with being in medical school? I don’t know but I’ve decided to take it one day at a time
Right now I started making TikTok videos of the my cooking process and it’s been getting a good number of views. The first video I made was something I did out of boredom and it did pretty great. So right now I have a couple of cooking videos on my tik tok. I had like 30 followers when I started now I have over 150 followers. Yippie!!!
Below are pictures of some of the things I made and the links to the TikTok videos. Some of pictures might not be so clear cause I mostly make videos so I have to take screenshots from the videos;
