How's your plans for the year panned out? Did you achieve all, a greater part of it or nothing at all? Well, there is another year loading so one can always make amends. Let's begin our look at history for today from Pakistan, albeit on a sad note.
We begin today from Pakistan [The assassination of Benazir Bhutto]. On this day in 2007, Benazir Bhutto, a Pakistani politician and first woman leader of Muslim country in the modern era was assassinated in Rawalpindi, Pakistan while she was on campaign for parliamentary elections. Benazir Bhutto was Prime Minister of Pakistan for two terms, namely from 1988 – 1990 and 1993 – 1996.
From Pakistan, we move over to Algeria [the death of Houari Boumedienne]. Do you also know that on this day in 1978, Houari Boumedienne, an Algerian army officer who became President of Algeria following a coup d’etat in 1965 died in Algiers at the age of 51.
From Algeria, we move over to Afghanistan [the death of Hafizullah Amin]. Now, on this day in 1979, Hafizullah Amin, a one time President and Prime Minister of Afghanistan in 1979 died in Kabul, Afghanistan following the invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviets.
From Afghanistan, we move over to East Timor [the birthday of Ernesto Zedillo]. Do you know that on this day in 1951, Ernesto Zedillo, the President of Mexico from 1994 to 2000 was born in Mexico City, Mexico.
Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Canada [the birthday 🎂 of Sir Mackenzie Bowell]. Do you know that on this day in 1823, Sir Mackenzie Bowell, the Prime Minister of Canada from 1894 – 1896 was born in Rickinghall, Suffolk, England.
