Here in Idaho, it's almost time for the Spirit of Boise! It's a balloon festival that runs from the Wednesday before Labor Day through the weekend. Pilots from all over the country come to fly out of Ann Morrison Park.
My father-in-law became a hot air balloon pilot because he enjoyed crewing with other pilots. Crewing for hot air balloon pilots is a lot of fun.
The best part is that after all of the fun of getting the balloon out, inflating it, chasing it down, then packing it up, we tailgate. We typically bring food and champagne, hang out and have a great time.
I took time off to help out. It's a lot of fun seeing all of the families' faces light up when they see all of the balloons. On Friday night they prepare a special night glow show for everyone. It's a lot of coffee-fueled, sleep-deprived mornings, but it's a lot of fun!
If you get the chance to go up in a hot air balloon or crew for one, don't hesitate!
