Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about something funny: not talking about a vacation!
Less Is More
We tend to take too many pictures these days and share too many things..
A few weeks back, we took a vacation, of sorts. It was more of a trip that had a purpose, but we turned it into a miniature vacation. One of the things that I made sure to do though that I enjoyed, was try to not take many pictures and also try not to talk too much about it!
There are certainly a lot of places that we go that we would love to talk endlessly about. That's largely okay but at the same time - we tend to lose a lot of privacy when we do that. Not that we don't want to be proud and enjoy that we took a vacation, but we don't need to constantly share everything with the world when we do these things.
I'm glad that I made it a point with this recent trip to try and make sure that I don't take a lot of photos, and try to keep the experience to ourselves. I had one post from it that I think went up recently, but otherwise I largely didn't do much with it. That felt refreshing in a lot of ways!
I will admit one thing though that is a little comical.. there wasn't a whole lot of interesting things around for me to take photos of :D perhaps it was because it was December.. and winter.. and cold as fuck on some days. That certainly has an impact! What we did do though is try to meet the people that were there and try to make some human connections. That was a good and important part of the whole thing.
I think it's strange and a little comical that celebrating something like not sharing a thousand photos and all the details about where we went with people online is actually a bit of a rebellious thing to do. I'm old enough to remember when the likes of Myspace just came out and became popular. It was more of a rebellious thing to talk about every detail of your life on those platforms than it was to not.
The shifts in human psyche and trends is pretty interesting to watch it play out over time. I don't profess to be deeply philosophical or anything like that, but I have been able to watch some things happen. Some of them scary, some of them good, a lot of them mundane but the changes are nevertheless evident and it's interesting how we each have our own perspectives of it and why it's happening or why it's important.
What about you, do you take trips to places and make it a point to not really talk about them, or share pictures online? Let me know in the comments!
