The Missing Parcel
This week has been one of those weeks from hell where everyone dealing with your stuff just cocks up. I have just got back home after spending the last 6 hours running around trying to locate the textile waste sample which I eventually found after it had been delivered to the incorrect company by a courier company we do not even use. Utter madness and they seriously screwed up on this delivery. This was the first sample of textile waste this company has dispatched so they knew which courier company took it without even having to double check.
This is what happens when certain outlying areas areas sub contracted by other courier companies doing the work for them. I have been chasing this sample since last week Monday as we should have had this delivered over 10 days ago. On Tuesday this week our courier company admitted they were at fault and would collect it and delver it by Thursday this week.
It turned out they had sub contracted the collection and somehow ended up with another company over 100Km away. In the end I had to deal with the company who had received the parcel directly so as to simplify things and make sure I got my sample. This is how important this was as I could not waste another week.
The textile sample is exactly the material we wanted and it is already holding weight which is the best news ever and is not volumetric meaning the 10kg size is smaller than I thought it would be and does not need compacting. This ultimately means it can be placed inside the punching bags without much effort to compress this.
I need to pull the trigger on buying 32 tons of this material only to find out my batch has already been exported to another company overseas. The supplier only generates about 32 tons monthly and now is in a flat spin making mine now. Having a local buyer is far easier for them and are happy to supply their entire production of this particular material waste for my needs.
This weekend we are filling punching bags which was not the plan in order to fulfill our customers deadline beg Tuesday/Wednesday this coming week so they are in stores by Friday. Trust me if the profit was not there I would have dug my heels in because we only received the skins on Thursday night.
I am busy crunching the numbers and this is such a beautiful business to be doing because there is not much thinking required .Once you have sourced all the various materials and why the buying smart approach is where the profits are made there is not much else required. This luckily is only a small 500 bag order than requires stuffing requiring 10 697 Kilograms of textile waste along with tubes of sand. This is not fine tuned yet so it will be chaotic this weekend and only once we know will we be able to work smarter.
I will take photographs tomorrow and explain the process, but I have never known something so simple could be this profitable as there is nothing complicated.
