We Are Alive! December 16th, 2024 Lego Set from 2022

in #alive9 days ago

While the girls were at the shower, daddy was taking care of the boys. To keep them occupied, I went to the closet and brought out something I've been keeping there for such a time as this.

A "CREATOR" lego shark set!

I originally purchased this set when Daniel was still very little, but it was still a bit young for him. All the pieces have been mixed with all the other sets and the instructions were lost. But he enjoyed the shark so much that I got another set.

I had purchased this set almost 3 years ago for about $12.00 and kept it untouched and unopened for all that time. I considered never opening it, until it was worth hundreds (lol), but what's the point of having legos that are not played with?

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I looked up what it costs today:

The price has increased 167%, I'm glad I got it when I did! Part of me wants to preserve these sorts of things unopened for at least a generation, but what is lost in not bothering to use them in the mean-time?

The precious moments of building this together with my son is worth much more than a few dollars.

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

I've considered buying/selling lego sets for fun (and profit), but never got into it. Maybe with young children it's too tempting to open them and mix them with all the other legos! They also can get lost easily. Legos + 7 children under 12 = missing pieces. !BBH

I agree with you, and I congratulate you for the decision to play with your children assembling the legos, that is something priceless, that moment of relaxation and enjoyment while they assemble it is the best, I do not have boys, but you can not imagine the times I played doll with my daughters or they played imagining they were hairdressers and combed my hair or put ornaments in my hair, see them and hear them laugh at me is priceless.

Good for you and your children,

Besides, you can't deny that putting together legos is fun, I love it.

!BBH

Yes it was fun and worth it. Funny how while I played legos with my boy, all my girls were playing "tea party", except it was a REAL tea party with decoration, music and lots of food and cakes and tea. !BBH

Part of me wants to preserve these sorts of things unopened for at least a generation, but what is lost in not bothering to use them in the mean-time?

The precious moments of building this together with my son is worth much more than a few dollars.

If you build something good with the Lego set with your child, and if you both actually enjoy it, then that is certainly worth much more than a few dollars increase in the price of the Lego set.

Time spent with your family in happiness, in enjoyment and in love cannot be expressed in dollars.

You cannot buy these things with money, no matter how much money you have.

Much better to open and use the Lego sets with children now than to keep then unopened for a generation.

Your children will have good childhood, and all of you will have very good and very pleasant memories.

If you really would like to keep a Lego set unopened, then one good possible solution is to buy two from the same Lego set, and open and use one, and keep the other unopened to sell it later for a better price.

Time spent with your family in happiness, in enjoyment and in love cannot be expressed in dollars.

This is true, but it also causes controversy. Our family could be much better off financially if I had a 9 - 5 away from home. But a good childhood for my children with their father present is much more important to me than wealth, spending time with my wife throughout the day is more valuable than money - but sadly it doesn't pay the bills very well. That's why when I make an "investment" purchase of legos, I wonder if I should have exchanged it for dollars... but in the end I think I made the correct (and consistent) choice. My true "investment" is in my children, not in dollars.

I agree, it's a nice set. Can also make a squid and a fish with the same set. !BBH

I used to play with those when I was a kid. Nice to see they're still popular even though kids today usually play with video games.

I think it was a good decision to open it and let your boys play with the toys. They must have enjoyed it very much.

Yes, they enjoyed it much. It was a good decision to open it, wasn't doing us any good sitting in the closet unopened! !BBH

That sounds like such a special moment.
It's amazing how something as simple a LEGO set can create lasting memories.
I love that you chose to enjoy it with your son rather than just keeping it stored away.
Those moments of building and bonding are truly priceless, way more valuable than any price increase.

Very cool lego shark.
It's definitely worth more to put it together with your son than earn a few lousy dollars on it.

It's a fun set, !INDEED. A lousy eight dollars isn't worth the precious time I gained with my son. !BBH

Legos are one thing that don't lose their value! It's crazy! My kids also love Legos and have lots of sets. Before we moved, I used to look on craigslist, etc. and find large lots of them for sale for a fraction of the price of buying lots of big sets. It worked out well, but they usually didn't come with instructions. I think Legos will never go out of style. 😉
