Is it time to rage quit again?

in #leo3 months ago

At the risk of getting a little bit of hate thrown my way, I decided to write a little post about this, let's call it; "phenomenon". I might be mistaken here, but this might be the fourth wave of rage quitting since I joined the platform back in the Steem days.

is this the way?

Help me out...

What is the logic here? Maybe I'm missing something... Maybe it goes something like this....

Let's play pretend for a minute:

Picture it...

A dark room full of smoke...

Voices can be heard, there are people laughing...

As you approach you notice that it's none other than Hive's biggest whales sitting in a round table drinking expensive whisky and playing cards.

It's blocktrades turn, and he looks around and says to theycallmedan in a very serious voice

I think you are bluffing... I'll raise you 10 thousand hbd

Dan laughs hysterically....

you got me Blocks... let's go another round. Double or nothing... What say you?

Someone knocks at the door aggressively, something is up. Blocktrades get's up from his chair and elevates his tone.

  • Who dares interrupt us whales? This better be an emergency!!! *

A timid voice interjects...

It is Sir, I apologize for interrupting but... we have a big problem in our hands

WHAT? OUT WITH IT ALREADY! - Says blocktrades as he wave his right hand in disgust.

It's DingleberryMcgee Sir... he, he just... he.. just rage quit the platform

The enslaved dolphin closes the door behind him and disappears into the ether.

Blocktrades stares back with disappointing anger...

.

Dan gets up from his chair and tries to calm down his friend Blocktrades.

Listen Blocks... we've been dropping the ball with dingleberry... we haven't been upvoting his posts to the hundreds like he deserves, we done fucked up man"

I feared this day would come.... gotta upvote the dingles, that's how we keep em....

Blocktrades takes a swig, clears his throat and calls for an emergency meeting of the cabal...

The phone rings...

Gentlemen... it's time... Dingleberry's actions have touched me, and we need to start upvoting all the Dingles we can find

After ten long seconds of silence one by one the members of the Cabal accept Blocktrades command and hang up without saying much...

End of Scene

Who has the inside info here?

On a serious note. Listen, if you need to quit, quit. No need to post about it, no need to cry, none of that gives you nothing but ego stroking and truthfully nobody cares that much.

I've seen hundred if not thousands of people come and go. Hundred who called themselves true believers, Kool aid dispensing archons of Theological Hivery, and they've left too, and guess what? Hive is still around, and probably will continue to be long after a thousand more people write the rage quit posts.

This is such a long game, that anyone who is thinking about it outside of at least a 10 year zoom-out is probably missing the forest for the trees.

Anyways, I'm done rating...

On the other hand... I'm buying the dip.

Ha ha ha nice angle Meno old Hiver. Indeed Hive is following the general crypto market as all tokens do although Hive is looking weaker than many others now.

I rage about the dump in price myself. But it's not the time to quit. I'm following the 4 year cycle which only peaks in a year or more. This is the last stretch, only a few more months to go until price returns to a decent value, if the whales allow it of course.

As you approach you notice that it's none other than Hive's biggest whales sitting in a round table drinking expensive whisky and playing cards.

Guess who is who in the table.

awesome gif

I wish the dramatoken was still around. That was the perfect response to those rage quit posts. Literally just that!

had no idea it did not exist anymore... whatsup used to hand them out all the time

Another user who just disappeared!

I miss the drama token, too.

We've seen it so many times. I keep saying that Hive isn't 'fair', but we at least have a chance to earn. The whales are going to do whatever they want, but it's not in their interest for Hive to fail. There are a few rogues like rancho/haejin who will vote anything to get the curation rewards. I very rarely get a $10 vote, but I stick around anyway as Hive is fun for me.

I've heard some say that the whale conspire to keep us down, but I doubt it. Those who rage quit and start attacking others are bound to have a bad experience. Don't cry if smooth takes a few bucks off your rare $60 post. I'm sure it's not personal.

Hive is imperfect, but it's still radical.

the idea that whales need us poor is kind of funny.... if the tokens don't grow in value they don't grow either... the way we stay down is by selling everything we make and not investing in a future. Its not that hard

Having met some of the whales I know they care about what Hive can be and do. Some of them may not even really need the money. They may be supporting all sorts of projects that we don't hear about. For others it's purely about the money. I like that Hive is empowering people who earn very little elsewhere. I'm fortunate to not need to take mine out for now.

In a Thai con-do.

Okay so it's no secret that user retention is important.
It's certainly not ideal that people up and ragequit.
It's very demoralizing to crab for years while BTC goes x4 and then hit a new local low.
That seemed to be a significant and noteworthy breaking point.

I think there is a good lesson of attrition here somewhere.
When we crashed very quickly to 25 cents (90%+ loss) morale was much better than now.
Time has been wearing our userbase down while hammered dogshit like WIF goes x100 and sits at rank 50 on the market cap. Meanwhile Hive has to pull out an x20 to get to rank 50. It's all so tedious.

Ive been thinking for a while now that the blogging thing might end up not being "the thing" you know.

Yes we came here because of it, and yes I still do it to a smaller extent, but, it's proven to be not enough to retain people. I suspect when Hive makes it, it will be more due to a layer sitting on top of it. I've made my peace with it at this point.

The only question that needs answering in that regard is how much value blogging has to the network compared to the value of other activities. It's funny to think about but if we had some trading gurus here that could actually make people money and stabilize the network at the same time that alone would be a huge boon to everyone. Of course consistently making money in this jungle is surprisingly difficult despite all the huge wins that end up just being lottery winners combined with survivorship bias.

Blogging has a lot of value if the bloggers are high value.

The biggest problem I see is trying to force blogging on everyone when in reality only like 1% of our population should be engaged in that activity. It's just a matter of infrastructure at this point and providing jobs to the users; creating a symbiotic relationship between the users and bandwidth of the chain. Much easier said than done I'm afraid, as there are no known working templates to copy... we have to invent them ourselves from scratch.
