I need a few lessons and see how some more experienced people are doing it first hand! Level up my camping and four wheel driving skills. I helped get my son get into it and now I feel like I am getting old and left behind! Can't just let the next generation have all the fun!
To be fair it was not as much of a thing when I was growing up, then work and family stuff seem to get in the way for years. I suppose we did a bit now and again but it was always a bit half arsed. It did not always seem worth the effort especially when we got home and I had to spend time cleaning and packing stuff away before heading straight back to work.
The first time we went camping I did not have a clue! I was thought it was simple but I did not have all the right gear, things got blown away, damaged. It felt embarrassing but I suppose you have to start some where and luckily the other people we were with helped out where they could. I just did not know there was different types of tent pegs for different ground and weather conditions. I just though you used the pegs that came with the tent and it would be right.
The first photo was sent to me by my son showing me what him and his mates get up to nowadays.
This is a big step up from my old cheap tent set up on Stradbroke Island and a few of the sand tracks we used to take with his first Hilux 4wd.
We have more recently tried using a swag and just sleeping in the back of the car but we need might need to test out some other options for longer stays.
I am not sure about the any hunting options as I have just had not exposure to it growing up in cities, Though I think just tagging along and even just watching would be an interesting experience. I was fascinated by the Netflix show "Alone in Alaska". Where the winner was able hunt and get enough food from one big animal to see himself through some very hard conditions.
