Apalis cisticola warblers, are small endemic insectivores.
Birds, fish, and even a squirrel in here today.
At first, when I took the photo above, I thought that it was a fiscal shrike, but the picture on my PC showed another creature entirely. It is an Apalis warbler, and I think it is of the Bar-throated Apalis species (Apalis thoracica).
Come and join me on my journey, and I will show you from the moment that we left our house.
Very excited to see the Apalis drinking water here, as it is a first for me to see the bird.
This was the moment when I left the house, as I always switch my camera on and across the road sat this little character called a Southern Double-collared Sunbird, fluffing his feathers in the morning sun.
Then, we got into the car and drove to one of our favorite farms, and I got some fish in a pond.
First the red, then this white one, that looks very pregnant. Strangely that the Giant Kingfisher, that keeps an eye on this pond, didn't get the fish when they were smaller as it usually does.
After the pond, I heard the call of the Malachite Sunbird, and as I walked towards its call this little guy below was keeping an eye on me. He looked very relaxed in the sunshine.
Yep! There the Malachite male sat in a tree.
And, in another tree close by the female Malachite was also doing her morning preening.
I know that there is a nest here somewhere, but I have not managed to locate it yet. So, I will have to wait until they start feeding, to locate the nest.
Finally, I showed you the other young Cape Robin-Chat recently, and here was even a younger one sitting next to my wife's handbag. I will do another post on him. I got some nice photos.
All of the photos above were taken on one journey, not far from our home, and I just wanted to show you the abundance of nature in our area. I can tell you that there are so many other things a person can take a photo of that it will blow your mind, and this is just a sample of it. Papillon is active on some of the farms that we visit, and, in this case, we support the creche of the farmworker's children. So, everybody knows us and at times it feels like a second home. The waiters at the coffee shop on the farm also treat us with some special attention.
I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.
