I bumped into my local green councillor doing some leafletting the other day, I'm not a member of the green party, but I do broadly sympathise so I actually read the newsletter:
Better access for cyclists and pedestrians on a 'blind' lane near a sewage treatment works...
This is actually on my running route, so I know it well, and sometimes I've even had to stop and let lorries past, and no you can't both walk and let the lorries through at the same time!
I'm honestly not sure how you would improve safety here or even if it's necessary - you can see if a lorry is coming, it's not entirely blind and the lorries, being all plant drivers, and knowing the lane themselves are always super slow going round the corner.
Keeping central clean
Honestly I quite like this - basically highlighting voluntary work around the local area - cleaning a pond, fixing a vandalised bench, small things, but they do make a difference, top job!
Ugly transformer plans rejected
There had been plans to put in place an electric substation on a nice local meadow that would have been something of an eyesore.
OK this is classic NIMBY, but I'm gonna say top job from the Greens again, this is five minutes walk away from me, no reason why the electricity board can't put their very large transformer somewhere else other than in a meadow!
New Wetlands...?
This is something that should be happening, rather than something that has happened, but I'm all in favour. Allowing rivers to bend and diverge rather than straight makes total sense.
Again top job, what with all the flooding recently, more wetlands, if well situated, can be an effective way of reducing down-stream flooding.
Overall: top job from the greens in my local area!
It's nice to see some concrete achievements carried out as well as some forward looking regional plans being worked on.
Maybe I should think about getting involved, but then again that'd mean less sitting around on my arse!
