Today I was talking to a friend about the methods I adopt to save money. I consider myself a thrifty person, which does not mean being stingy, but being careful how you spend your money.
It doesn't even mean that I always try to spend as little as possible, but it's just that I want to value how the money is spent. After all, as they say, they don't grow on trees!
With this friend I share the passion for reading, especially comics. Books and graphic novels, however, cost, and not even a little. Even just a novel and/or a graphic per month can even cost you 300 or more euros per year. Much more if you are an avid reader like us.
However, the cost of books is a problem that I have been solving for 3-4 years now. I use libraries.
Yes, we often forget, we are used to Amazon that delivers in 24 hours at home, but they still exist and they are a huge resource if you know them.
In my city, for example, libraries are organised into a network. Through their portal, if a book or comic book is not present in a library in the city, I can send it to me from any other library on the network that has a copy, greatly expanding the lending possibilities.
Over the years I've kept an Excel to keep track of how it went since I started using the library regularly. In three years I read books and comics for about 3000 euros and I bought some for less than 10%, about 260 euros.
Mo I'm in fact given a rule, if a book I've read I like and I think it's deserving and I'd like to own it, then I'll buy it or get it as a gift.
I find the use of the library not only an ecological, sustainable and ethical way of reading, but also a way to support a fundamental piece of the culture of my community.
The more people use the library and borrow books, the more funds they will receive and the more books will be available.

Oggi parlavo con una amica dei metodi che adotto per risparmiare. Mi reputo una persona parsimoniosa, che non significa essere avari, ma stare attenti a come si spendono i propri soldi.
Non vuol dire nemmeno che cerco di spendere sempre il meno possibile, ma solo che tengo a dare un valore a come i soldi vengono spesi. In fondo, come si dice, mica crescono sugli alberi!
Con questa amica condivido la passione per la lettura, in special modo di fumetti. Libri e graphic novel però costano, e nemmeno poco. Anche solo un romanzo e/o una graphic al mese possono arrivare a costarti anche 300 o più euro all’anno. Molto più se come noi sei un avido lettore.
Quello del costo dei libri è però un problema che ho risolto da oramai 3-4 anni. Utilizzo le biblioteche.
Si, spesso ce ne dimentichiamo, abituati ad Amazon che consegna in 24 ore a casa, ma esistono ancora e sono una enorme risorsa se le si conosce.
Nella mia città per esempio, le biblioteche sono organizzate in una rete. Tramite il loro portale, se un libro o fumetto non è presente in una biblioteca in città, posso farmelo arrivare da qualsiasi altra biblioteca della rete che ne abbia un copia, ampliando di molto le possibilità di prestito.
Negli anni ho tenuto un Excel per avere traccia di come è andata da quando ho iniziato a usare regolarmente la biblioteca. In tre anni ho letto libri e fumetti per circa 3000 euro e ne ho acquistati per meno del 10%, circa 260 euro.
Mo sono infatti dato una regola, se un libro che ho letto mi piace e penso che sia meritevole e vorrei possederlo, allora lo compro o me lo faccio regalare.
Trovo l’uso della biblioteca non solo un modo ecologico, sostenibile e etico di leggere, ma anche un modo per sostenere un tassello fondamentale della cultura della mia comunità.
Più gente usa la biblioteca e prende in prestito libri, più fondi riceverà e più libri saranno disponibili.
