Hello Hello Hivians
Beer and food is one of the best combinations ever!
Last day of my birthday month deserves a treat
Today (well actually last night Friday) we are having a delicious dark Scottish beer from a beautiful set of islands where I lived as a teenager and actually had my first beer in a pub.
The Islands in question are the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland. The actual time I last drink this beer was in a pub on Orkney and I did write a beer saturday review last year Northern Beer Saturday with bonus beer batter!
So the beer today is Dark Island from The Orkney Brewery on Mainland which is the largest island in the Orkney Isles.
Dark beer is my favourite, give me an ale or a stout over light lager beer any day of the week.
This bottle was hiding, actually I think it was trying to germinate and replicate itself.
The bottle size is bigger than you think.
One of the many amazing things about Orkney is that it is full of archaeological wonders.
For example do you see the label? Let's zoom in...
These are fluffing big stones. Standing stones, there are a couple of famous sites, The Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones of Steness...
This is what they are like...
Yes fluffing massive so they are... I still need to make a post or two about that, thanks for the reminder!
When I think of Great Britain and takeaways especially living on the coast, then the number one has to be ....
Yes .... Fish and Chips!
With oodles of brown sauce!
The beverage to accompany them?
Yes you guessed it, a glass of beautiful Dark Island beer.
Gosh seeing this pictures, it has me licking my lips again!
What does it taste like I hear someone asking?
If you look at the label you might have a clue....
Chocolatey: Rich: Delicious
Dark Island is an iconic beer. A gold standard-bearer for crafted premium Scottish Ales. It almost needs no introduction. It offers ripe, fruity and roast coffee aromas with flavours of dark chocolate, dates and nuts, from the combination of roasted malts and robust hops.
This is how The Orkney Brewery describe Dark Island
I love chocolate and yes it is most definitely in there.
But what is this .....
I just my new Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone and its magic editor seemed to do its own thing!
What do you know there is a fish swimming in my fluffing beer!
Fish and Dark Island go together very well. It is after all a small island surrounded by ... yes you guessed it, the home of many fishes!
That picture above is of the last time I had Dark Island in the pub on Orkney with fish and battered chips!
THE VERDICT
Oh fuff yes ... I will be buying again!
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....
It is a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 374 from the one and only @detlev.
Being Scottish I know how important a part alcohol played in caring for people!
Do you know we would put whisky on our little finger to let the baby suck to either stop it crying or send it to sleep or both. It work on me and I turned out only a wee bit crazy!
The only alcoholic remedy prescribed by doctors was for ladies especially pregnant, new mothers and the elderly was to drink a bottle of stout or dark beer daily. I think for the iron maybe.
So this #BeerSaturday week I would like to invite @lhes since she is one cute new mother of a cute wee baby!
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!
