I was recently contacted by DJ Nick Roseblade who runs a show called Signal to Noise on the Brighton-based internet radio station Totally Radio.
It's a pretty cool station, with shows offering reggae, African and global beat, hip-hop, ambient, electronic, talk radio, drama, prog rock, experimental noise, poetry/spoken word: you name it!
Nick was messaging to tell me he had played out one of my Bandcamp tracks on his Aug. 23 show, which was pretty great to hear already.
But he also invited me to compile a guest mix of 30 minutes of tunes/items that inspired me, including more of my own recordings.
It didn't take me long. One of the tracks was an original number by @steevc, while my teacher and collaborator Marco Marconi also features, alongside a poem by the late Richard Copeland,* Bright Rail *, which I made into [a film] in collaboration with Richard. Needless to say, there was music involved, too. (https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/77331784)
@steevc's tune We Grew Up In the Seventies always gets stuck in my head and I love the lyrics, and he definitely inspired me to play jazz on the clarinet by simply being willing to dive in an accompany me, and then by liking the music, and playing more of it. We have played a bit together as @swing47 including at Balstock 2019.
So here is the most recent edition of Nick's show, which aired on Sept. 6. My guest mix starts at 1'17" -- hope you like it!
