We Had a Blast!!
Went out fishing with the family and we finally found some fish!! It took most of the winter for me to get the gear and the location to get on the fish. I was finally able to get both my kids to catch some fish, boy was it worth it!!! Seeing how excited the kids got each time they got a bite made it all worth it.
We had quite the haul, honestly way better than I thought we would do!. I has hoping to get 10 keepers, not over 30. The daily limits are 20 each but I started to get cold and knew I had a lot work left at home.
Close Up Time!!!
One Random Bass
A little small, and out of season, so back under the ice he went. Hope I can catch it next year when its eating size!!
Clean Up!!
It took me over 2 hours to fillet all the fish and package for the freezer. We got at least 3 meals out of it, potentially more. After all that work, I am now in the market for a cordless fillet knife to help next time. It will really help to get thourgh the rib cage on these smaller fish with less effort and time.
My Boots!!
Well, it turns out leaving my boots over head in the garage. I guess the hot summers really did a number ont he rubber and made them brittle. I squatted down to do some fishing, and heard a cracking. Never good to see large gaps in your boots.... not to mention it got worse throughout the day. As soon as I got home, they went in the trash. Sad, event though there were probably 13 years old, they were worn less than 2 dozen times.
Sad way to lose some otherwise quality gear. I will be in the market for some insulated much boots next winter and move on from laces.... I am getting too old for all that work.
Likely the last time for the year.
Would love to get out a few more times, but given the weather and my schedule, it is unlikely I will be getting out again. Then again, I got a kayak, and can go right back as soon as the water is open. Easy enough to get there and get some more fresh fish to feed the fam.
