My Original Song

When I saw this theme chosen by our dear friend @fernanblog I instantly thought, oh dear, what should I do?
I don't write songs unfortunately, so it was either giving this week a miss or having a go at creating one; I didn't think that would have been fair on anybody though!

Glenn Cole - Brightest Star

Our dear friend Glenn came to the rescue on this occasion with one of our favourite songs that he wrote many years ago; Some of our Arlesey Jammers have performed it in the past at our outings, but I cannot remember anybody adding a harmonica to it, so this will be my special version here on Hive.

Sadly, Glenn passed away some years ago, which makes the lyrics of this beautiful song very poignant. He is dearly missed by everyone as a person, as the marvellous musician that he was and a pillar of our community, getting everybody involved in our musical adventures.

I won't write much about the song itself, but I will say one thing, that it always brings back happy memories to all of us Jammers.

Anna how are you? we had some time without talking a bit; first of all I must tell you that I was moved by the lyrics in your voice and with the harmonica and even more knowing the history of this beautiful song... you did a great tribute to Glenn so I must applaud you for that 👏👏👏!!!!!

Something that I loved is that the song even though you didn't write it, you took ownership of it and made it so personal that if you didn't put that it was Glenn's I would have assumed that it was yours... I loved your work Anna 🌹😍💖!!!

And one can always improve to strive :) I used to lock myself in my bedroom for 9 hours a day as a teenager just playing the guitar and making all sorts of sounds, that’s how I learned! Haha.
We sometimes don’t know our talents until someone points them out :)

Wow, these are the kind of songs that inspire and touch the heart! The lyrics are so beautiful! So much sweetness, and you obviously interpret it in such a wonderful way! The harmonica is super brutal! It gives it an even more dramatic touch. Excellent my dear friend!

That's so cool that you like the harmonica. I only learned that bit the other day, and it needs a bit of polishing, but I think it does add to the song.. I'd like to be able to bend notes on it, but I've not figured that out yet.. haha

Glenn was an excellent songwriter and that was one of his best. I think I may have been the first to cover it at the White Horse.

I see you shifted the key to fit your voice and the harmonica is a nice addition. I'm happy more people will get to hear the song.

It had to go up for me, but I had to find a key that would both suit my voice and make the harmonica work. G was a compromise for that.
I'll sure take it out in future.. it's a marvellous tune.
