Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 188 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is “Fly and Dream” and was picked by @yisusth! For those of you that don’t know, @yisusth is a great trumpet player, and he helps run the Music Zone Community on Hive that hosts the weekly Hive Music Festival (currently in its 57th week), and has just started a Song Challenge for people to post brand new original songs that they haven’t shared online or in public before – so if you want to check out some HIVERS being musically creative, check that community out please!

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. If you are wanting to take part this week, but need some help interpreting what kind of songs would suit the theme, please go check out my post here:

https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/music-three-tune-tuesday-129

In that post, I suggested some cover songs that would suit the theme well, and you’re welcome to borrow any of the ideas if you still want to take part in the Hive Open Mic this week!

The obvious ideas I came up with are:

• “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly
• “Wish I Could Fly” by Roxette

But… what I really want to do is a song from the animated film “The Snowman” from 1982. It was a childhood Christmas movie that South African children like me used to watch year after year as Christmas was approaching! In the movie, a young boy’s snowman comes alive, befriends him, and takes him flying to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus!

The flying scene is based around this beautiful song “Walking in the Air”, written by Howard Blake, and sung by the angelic boy soprano Peter Auty. Another very famous version of the song is sung by another angelic boy soprano, Aled Jones, was used for a Toys ‘R Us commercial in 1985, and that version reached number 5 on the UK singles chart. This has led to some confusion that Aled Jones also sung the film version of 1982 – but I can hear that Peter Auty has a much more distinctive way of rolling his ‘R’s in how he pronounces certain words… (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking_in_the_Air#:~:text=%22Walking%20in%20the%20Air%22%20is,on%20British%20and%20Finnish%20television.)

Here's the original from the film (Peter Auty):

And here’s the chart topper version by Aled Jones – I’m sure you’ll be able to tell the difference from now on! Hahaha!

Lyrics for “Walking in the Air” by Howard Blake

[Verse 1]
We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below
Are sleeping as we fly
I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly
So high above with you

[Verse 2]
Far across the world
The villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills
The forests and the streams

[Bridge]
Children gaze open-mouthed
Taken by surprise
Nobody down below
Believes their eyes

[Verse 3]
We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy
Mountains floating by
[Bridge]
Suddenly swooping low
On an ocean deep
Rousing up a mighty monster
From his sleep

[Verse 4]
We're walking in the air
We're dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us
Greets us as we fly

https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/music-tres-tune-tuesday-129

• “I Believe I Can Fly” de R. Kelly
• “Wish I Could Fly” de Roxette

(https://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/Walking_in_the_Air#:~:text=%22Walking%20in%20the%20Air%22%20is,on%20British%20and%20Finnish%20television).

¡Jajaja!

Letra de “Walking in the Air” de Howard Blake

[Verso 1]
Estamos durmiendo mientras volamos
Estoy agarrando muy fuerte
Estoy viajando en el azul de medianoche
Estoy descubriendo que puedo volar
Tan alto contigo

[Verso 2]
Lejos del mundo
Los pueblos pasan como sueños
Los ríos y las colinas
Los bosques y los arroyos

[Puente]
Los niños miran con la boca abierta
Tomado por sorpresa
Nadie abajo
cree en sus ojos

[Verso 3]
Estamos surfeando en el aire
Estamos nadando en el cielo helado
Estamos a la deriva sobre hielo
Montañas flotando por

[Puente]
De repente bajando en picado
En un océano profundo
Despertando a un monstruo poderoso
De su sueño

[Verso 4]
Estamos caminando en el aire
Estamos bailando en el cielo de medianoche
Y todos los que nos ven
Nos saluda mientras volamos
