I think we walk around saying 'thank you' quite a lot in the United Kingdom... almost as often as we say the word 'sorry'. It's nice to actually mean the words 'thank you' though. It's easy to forget to be grateful. It's important to thank our family and friends for the things they do for us and the time they spend with us.
I think we all like to look back on the best days we have had but rarely are they days you have enjoyed alone. My favourite days always involve me being with the people I love.
This song is thanking a loved one for all the days they have spent with the singer. Time is after all, a very precious and valuable thing. Once we have spent our time we can't ever recoup it. We cannot bank it somewhere to use on another day.
The writer of this song was Ray Davies but it was covered by and is associated with Kirsty McColl, an English singer songwriter, who sung in her own accent. I have tried to emulate this in my rendition. Very sadly she didn't have her fair share of 'Days' as she was tragically killed at the age of 41. She left behind some classic tunes and will be remembered fondly by many, through her music.
