This is my post for #memoirmonday 36 prompt Have you ever had recurring dreams? If so, describe them. Hosted by @ericvancewalton

My youngest brother was unloading 3/4 inch plywood from a train, he worked for a lumber company, he was on the ground and another worker was using the forklift. The bands holding the plywood broke and all of the wood came down on him crushing his pelvis. The Doctor told us he would never walk again.

After staying in our local hospital for 9 days, they found his intestines were cut almost into and had been leaking into his system making him septic. He was airlifted to a bigger hospital but it was too late, he passed away after being there for a few days.

After his death, for several months, I kept having the same dream that he was still alive. Every night in my dream I would drive across a bridge to the hospital, I would walk into the hospital, everything in it was stainless steel and my brother would be standing there and he was nude, we never talked and I would wake up. I did not see him nude, I just knew he was nude.

I told my Mom about this dream and she would tell me it was a good dream. It shows that everything being shiny and him standing and being nude says he is with God. I would have never thought it meant that. She said in Heaven there is no need for clothes and everything is clean, I think this dream and her interpretation made her feel better. She had lost both her sons.

If I am having a dream and I do not like the way it is going I can usually change the dream. In the dream, I can tell myself that I am dreaming, but that dream, I could never change it, it was the same every time I had it.

That is a great skill to have!!

Even though I have heard this story of your brother before, I am once again struck by how tragic this must have been for all in the family. It seems you have quite a few tragic stories to tell.

I dream often of my son, but the dreams are not recurring, they are very different each time. But one thing, like in yours, is always present: he can walk, and is healthy. He is also happy, which makes me long for these dreams.

Maybe we dream of the dead being alive because they are alive, just not in our world, and one day maybe when we die we will be reunited with them and our loved ones who are still here will dream of us being alive.

How brave of you to "Go There" with this one, @my job. (I'm not going there - not today.)
You've suffered so many huge losses.
The dream that a loved one is still alive - may it be so! Some say we are visited in our dreams by the souls of those we loved and lost.
I think of you and @owasco every day even though I'm awful about checking in here--because I've "checked out," more or less--withdrawn from the world. Oh, this will change, I keep telling myself.

Maybe it's what you need to do for a while, and it will indeed change. I hope so, but I gotta tell ya, I feel a thrill whenever I get a notification that you've been here.

You and @myjob have lost an awful lot of family, and in traumatic ways. I've been lucky in a way.

It is my most visited dream so I had to "go there" no other one means more to me and what Mom told me gives me peace knowing he is ok.

I have days, weeks, and months where I have checked out, so I understand when you say, it will change, it always does. Hang in there.

You are one of my favorites, of course, @owasco, too. But both of you do not post much anymore. You both are missed.

That's a nice waking dream.

What a beautiful explanation your mother gave you! I think it was the best explanation for everyone: for her, but also for you. I'm sorry to read what happened to your brother, because I can imagine what he must have suffered. I too have lost my father, my grandmother and 6 months ago my 18 year old nephew. And with all of them I have dreamed. In my dreams they are alive, never dead. Sometimes they talk to me, but other times they are there, still, watching. I wish I had the ability to change my dreams, it would be fantastic. What a pleasure to read you. Greetings

My Mother studied dreams and I always talked to her when one bothered me. I miss her so much but have only had a couple of dreams with her in them.

I am so sorry for your loss, 18 years old how sad that makes me for someone so young, my condolences to his parents.

I thought my brothers were too young, I have lost all 5 of my brothers, 3 were in their 20s, 1 in his early 30s, and 2 years ago I lost my last brother he made it to 76 years old.

If a dream is bad, I can tell myself, this must be a dream, and I can then make it go in another direction. I can not do it with all dreams just real bad ones. Try to say in your dream, this can not be real, I am dreaming, that is what happened the first time I did it.

Good luck with it and thank you for reading my post.

I'm very sorry about your brother. What an interesting dream though! I really do believe those who have crossed over can visit us in our dreams. John Lennon explained it pretty plainly, "I'm not afraid of death because I don't believe in it. It's just getting out of one car, and into another." The thing that trips a lot of folks up about dreams is often they're metaphors that have to be deciphered. It sounds like your Mom was gifted in that regard. It could be that whatever dimension or realm the those who've passed over are in is so different from our reality that ideas don't always translate perfectly between the dimensions.

Thank you.
I have never dreamed of someone who passed and saw them as dead, they are always alive. I spoke with two others and they said the same. I saw my brother walking and another person said she saw her son walking, both could not walk when alive. I am curious about how many people this happens to, and has anyone dreamed about a loved one and see they are dead?

I am wondering now if they can come to us in dreams and if it is a way for them to let us know they are fine.

I haven't either. I have dreams of my Dad quite a bit, usually just short snippets, but they're always happy and mundane dreams. We're just doing usual everyday things. I think you're spot on in your assumption. I think they're in another realm, perfectly fine. They're just no longer on this physical plane of existence.
